My take on the game six months ago was similar to the authors. According to the article, things have gotten worst since then.

So long as you play with a team you (semi) trust and are capable of shrugging off the baffling balancing solutions devs come up with, it's still a pretty fun game.
The PPC/Gauss balancing has actually been more reasonable as of late.
I don't really agree that brawling is dead, but my mechs are built to force the issue when needed. Personally, I'm more worried about team coordinated LRM barrages at the company level.

So, according to the commentary for that article, PGI's reversing it's FFP-only policy and working on implementing 3PV for the game? *siiiiiiiiiiiiigh* Personally, I'd have preferred it, but for them to be so adamant about the issue in the past, and now...so far down the road to flip-flop just destroys much of my remaining respect for them. Oh, and what's the ETA on Community Warfare? Next Octebruary? ADDENDUM: And while this runs counter to my assertions above, it's still quite funny: Behind the Scenes at PGI (part II)

The reason for the change is the loud minority in the forums are wrong. People do want third person.

The loudest voices usually extol the most wrong opinions.

Early on everyone wanted 3rdP (myself included) but anymore I'm not sure how many still really want it except for poptards. When you first start playing collision with ground objects is pretty frustrating but after you get used to it and the maps you start to automatically correct quickly and not having 3rdP doesn't feel as crippling as it did at first. While I'm not sure we really need it as a always-on setting it would be nice to have it as a momentary for when you get hung-up. Considering after keeping mum about yea/na 3rdP and rear view for a long time they finally admitted that the engine couldn't handle it and thus it wouldn't be implemented -if you have seen advanced zoom, there is an example of the engine limits - I'm stumped about how they will implement it.

Sandy has it pretty well though I don't agree on the PPCs they need a longer recharge and they should also have a chance to explode like a Gauss. If you are really concerned about the details then Emp's video is accurate but if you aren't then the game is pretty fun. The biggest issue would be PUGing solo just because if you get a team of newbs and morons it can be painful. Generally when we are grouping though we have a pretty good time.
