I have played MW4 Merc for some time now, but never conected to internet. 2 days ago, I decided to connect to net and play online (I had some suspicions about the mercs...). After connecting and playing a little, I got out. But now, I have a bunch of incompetent (to the extreme) mercs in my campains. Any one has a explenation for this sudden drop in precision of shooting for mercs?
I can't believe that Mustang, for example, with 95 gunnery can't hit a legged Argus... It is impossible. It just miss constantly. This never happened before going online. Only after.

The only difference would be that now you know how bad the AI really is.

How about 9 mercs, all with gunnery above 65, can't hit a Hrotgar dropship!
Or, how about me having to chase all over the map for a mech, just because it doesn't want to fight me? (think about me in a Sunder without beagle active probe chasing a standard Hellspawn hiding at night

)
Or, how about doing the beach fight angainst Aisa and her full stars and kill all in process with a standard Highlander and finish without any significant damage.
Or how about no more misile lock on me any more. Nada, no combat streak, no lrm, no mrm, no nothing.
How about doing the assault colloseum with a hunchback and win with maximum kills.
Something is WRONG. But what, I can't figure out. I tried to reinstal the whole thing, it didn't work. I tried to apply patches, it didn't work. My online experience is not a pleasant one, so I might just as well quit this game. Too bad, though, it's a nice game...

At that point, I'd like to inquire about how, precisely, you managed to get a Highlander in SP? And, for that matter, how I might be able to do the same with the Mech Pack 'Mechs?

Well, I installed Mercs, then installed InnerSphere Pack, and then Clan Pack. Then proceded to check the new mecs. I really liked Dragoon, and I found that Masakari is a dissapointment.
They are all in the rooster in single player, but not usable in campaign mode.

Right on, Alice in Chains baby...

The Clan and IS expansion mechs are only available in
Multiplayer or
Instant Action. They are not available in the single player campaign. (The same goes for the
Mektek Expansion mechs.)
About the Masakari...it's best used as a sniper with BAP, enhanced optics, and a hard hitting loadout. Try 4 ER PPCs...or 2 Clan Gauss + 2 ER PPCs.

I thought there was a way to use the Mektek mechs in the campaign. I seem to recall that if you sold a Mercs mech you could purchase the Mektek mech that it was based off of or something like that.

Yep you're right, I forgot there's
some cooky way to get them.

QUOTE
It works like this. Mektek mechs use ID's of other mechs (when in game look at your own damage display, you will see an original microsoft mech). For example, the annihilator uses the Sunder.
Now, when a mechs name is alphabetically BEFORE the name of the mech it's borrowing from it is accessible. So, Annihilator (A) comes before Sunder (S), therefore you can get it. The process works like this:
Go to the market. If you see the mech for sale (in our example, the sunder) then buy all of that mech (expensive, eh?). Leave the market, then go back to the market. Now, sell back as many sunders as you want. You may notice the price to buy them back once you've sold them will be different. You can now buy sunders, which will in fact appear in your mechlabs as annihilators!
Nyctasia - That only applies if you download the Mektek expansion, though.

Nah, I never was much of a sniper. I like it up close an personal... when I have a good day. A black knight can cary 4ERPPC, so does a Sunder and Novacat. But I like PPC more.
I used to play with a Thor with 2 LBX20 1 ERlargeLaser and 1 CS6 SRM.

Afeter installing SP2 on win XP, the problem is now resolved... I can only conclude that this problem I had was due to some software conflict or some software interpretation of actual data...
I have no idea what-so-ever what I was wrong. Thanks for support, team banzai forum is really a nice place to hang out..

And yet another problem. See if you can spot it...

The right arm?
Nyctasia
Sep 3 2006, 09:30 AM
Yes. Both arms are shut-off, but in the right arm he still has a PPC working... that was really unexpected... Fund some more... stuff that I don't like..., but that's for single player... Still have to try multiplayer...

Yeah, I thought that was it. Meh....every game's got their little glitches.
Nyctasia
Sep 10 2006, 11:45 PM
Well, first of all, no offence to any one. But this hardly seem to be glitches. This is my impression! This things are in this game because they were ment to be there, to compensate for the pilots stupidity. They don't aim you for a while to gain missile lock, they seem to just make a check if they gain lock. If check passed, you are a target locked. If not, they remake the check after some time. In support of this, I happened to try to gain lock on feng chen while I had a BAP and ECM. In theory, that would make me harder to lock for his missile. Well, I cut the chatter for colliseum hevy, and feng looks at me and he has locked me before I lock on him. Bear in mind that he has no BAP. Ellie in her black knight can twist and turn after you, even if she is shut down (Ellie came in my mind, but this is done by any opponent you meet in single player...). I put 3 gaus rifles on a gladiator and hit a 35t Uller, and have no effect on him (does't knock him down). And as for the missing arm on that Uziel, I got an Atlas with his right side black, no armour on his special locations, and the guy was still firing at me with his gaus... So, I don't know how this works online, but it seem in sp no mather what rocking effect you inflict on some other mech, only extreme cases are taken in consideration, as for the rest they are compensated faster then inflicted... Oh well, long live Single Player and Stupid Mercs...

Actually, BAP and ECM on your mech will make it easier for an opponent to get a missile lock...
Nyctasia
Sep 17 2006, 01:57 PM
Please tell me more about this. If I get it right, then ECM is bugged, and instead of increasing time for missile lock it actually reduce it?
Also, as a side note. I took all armour away from a Daishi, and packed 6 clanLBX10 canons on it plus 2 ERMLS and a CSSRM6. Should this throw on the ground ani 30-35t mech if all LBX's are fired in a shot?

ECM increases you electronic emissions therefore making it easier for a missle lock. The advantage of ECM is that you decrease the detection range of guy trying to lock you up with missles. If you want to make it harder for missles to lock on to you turn your radar off which in turn shuts down your ECM.
As for your second question. I've knocked down light mechs with a lot less fire power than that. I've knocked down light mechs with a single CLBX20 shot to the torso.

I thought so. But I couldn't knock a Uller in Colloseum with that setup...
Hedgehog

I (once) knocked down a 100 tonner with 2x LBX10s...
I think it's a percentage chance which varies according the the amount of knock and the chassis size... I'd guess there's always a chance it won'y cause knockdown.
Alternatively, the uller may have been using an advanced gyro - this makes it a lot harder to knock down (though it's still not impossible).
On the other hand, an Uller that's just taken 6 LBX-10s worth of damage is in trouble anyway
Nyctasia
Sep 18 2006, 09:49 PM
Corect me if I'm wrong, but Uller chasis have no Advanced Giro option...
Side note: It seems that when I hit an arm, the rest ot the mech suffers no rocking effect. The arm is shut off and in the process it takes the effects of the weapons away... But I too have noticed that there is a chance to knock down a mech, no matter the class, but given the same conditions, the same effect will not happen 100%. So plai simple, on each shot there is a chance to knock a mech down, if the weapons are powerfull enough, but there is no guarantee that it will happen...

You are correct.

btw I meant correct about the chance to knock down a mech
Hedgehog
Sep 19 2006, 09:42 PM
Hmmm... are you using MP 3.02a?
The Uller has a gyro in that version...
