...a pristine copy of Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries for $2.00 in an EBGames near campus. I was surprised to find out that it seems to be a stand-alone expansion like MW4: Mercs, since it installed up all nice and pretty without any complaint about my lack of anything else resembling MW2. MW2 being the only game in the MW series I have not yet tried, I'm qute eager to get in there and get my hands dirty...but XP being what it is (a pain in my arse), it refuses to run.

I have tried every compatibility option offered by XP with no luck, so here I am to beg the masses for any solutions that might be lurking out there in the world. What can I do to make this sucker work that I haven't already tried (preferrably not related to the wanton destruction of my compy)?

There's a way to do it...unfortunately, I don't know what it is. I remember reading about someone doing it on some forum...might try searching the DSC and NBT forums.

I got my copy to work by ehem, aquiring a copy of virtual pc and running it through a copy of 98.

unfortunenly there are two versions of MW2:Mercs the DOS version and the Win95 version, if you have the dos version there is a way to get it run through a combination of programs. They have the tuturial on the nbt forums somewhere.

But if you have the win95 version the only way to get it to work is to ge t acopy of 98, or 95 to run; it cannot be emulated in WinXP. Thats why i suggest virtual pc and run a copy of 98.

Crud, that's what I was afraid of. I've got a Win98 PC that is in good working order...the only problem with that is the fact that said computer is roughly 1000 miles from where I am right now.

Looks like I'll be waiting a few months then... mecry.gif
