So how is salvage determined on MW4: Mercs?

Is it fixed or is there a chance that your shots dictate what you salvage?

I know that on the first planet I went to Eaton that there is plenty of opportunity to salvage a couple of wolf hounds an osiris, 2 Catapults, 2 Argus's and an Uziel.

Do you guys normally sell off this salvage or hold onto it till you can find something better to ride in. I know the ARguss isn't the best ride in the game, but early on being able to tote an Gauss or LBX 20 or Ultra AC20 really makes pounding the bad guys easier in my mind.

Right now I am at the last mission Revolution with a full company.

I have the following mechs

Lance 1:
Argus Me (UAC 20 three tons of ammo, 2x mxpls, 2x mpls)
Chimera (Uac 10 three tons ammo, erppc): Shredder
Argus (LBX 20, 4 mpl and I believe an SRM 4 or 6): Hannibal
Uziel (1 ERPPC 1 Clan LRM 15 2 medium pulse lasers) Spirit

Lance 2:
Puma (1 ERPPC 2 clan LRM-10 2 er mL) Mustang
Catapult (2x Clan LRM 15 2 tons of ammo, 4 Medium Pulse Lasers) Bullseye
Catapult (2x Clan LRM-20 1ton Ammo, 4 Medium Pulse Lasers) Angel
Uller (2 clan LRM-10, ER PPC) Goof (have to double check on a few figs when I get home)

Anyhow the basic Ide is to make Lance 2 my firesupport lance, and with Mustang and Bullseye my best pilots are hands down in that lance. Angel improved on the last mission She was on so that was good.

I think I have a Wolfhound in reserve that I salvaged from the mansion misson, but everything else was sold.

The only two mechs I am really worried about are the Uller and Uziel i think both could be taken out very easily. Mustang proves to be VERY efficient in that Puma)

Except for the Puma and Uller I've salvaged all the mechs there. I have sold the two Wolfhounds and a Flea I had to start with(and salvaged another, and lost two osirisis in the ambush mission.)

Any suggestions on how to improve this unit? i have about 5 mil that I'm sitting on

Salvage and save until you can't accomplish a mission, then start looking for new rides. Spend a litttle on weapons, though. That Uziel, for example, can be very effective with PPCs.

Spread your people around to make sure they all get EXP, and try not to LOSE mechs or people if possible. That really hurts. Once you make it to Solaris, that can become your cash cow. You can make a lot of money there...will help outfit you for the rest of the missions.

Don't give up on that Uller or that Uzi...both can be fine mechs in the right situation.

I take a different approach to Lemur with salvage and new mech purchasing. I also don't necessarily ride the biggest baddest mech I have. This may mean that on a mission like Eaton Revolution I'm fighting a mech or 2 down but I'll always go for quality over quantity so it evens out. Your 2 lances are perfectly sound and theres nothing wrong with them. However, I'd have got rid of the Chimera and the Uller and the Puma and kept one of the Wolfies and I'd be riding around in the Shadowcat of Doom (CLBX 20, 2 er med, S6SRM, jets, decent speed, maybe some electronics). It's all a matter of taste though. It's as well Zeph isn't around to hear me say this but Chimmys suck and always will. It's impossible to load a satisfying config on and they're hateful mechs that look crap too. *Hides from Zeph and Lonewolf when they next drop by*.

I also buy myself new mechs as soon as I can afford them. Obviously making sure that theres enough to make the next drop but if that Madcat's finally come in then I'll be trimming my collection to make sure I have room and have the wedge to get it. Also, don't forget that mechs you're not using still cost you money to keep so by all means keep a couple of spares but don't go overboard. As for weapons, my advice is buy Guass Rifles, PPCs, Clan LBX 10 and 20 and Streak 6 packs as soon as you see them. ER mediums are good weapons to round out the weight on a mech butonce you've got a good stockpile you won't really need to buy them.

yeah I ended up selling the chimera as I recall but not sure what I replaced it with
Wrath_Of_Deadguy
That, of course, and always sell anything you don't need. Things like MG Arrays, Small Lasers, IS Autocannon (assuming you've got the Clan versions on hand), etc. My weapon budget usually consists of whatever money I gained from selling off all the weapon salvage and stock weapons that I didn't want.

i try to stockpile a few clan gauss lbx and ultra ac 10 and 20s when they come up
Siegfried
Thats the way of it. My weapons stock consists of about 30 ER med, a couple of ER large, as many ERPPCs as I can scrape together, Streak 4 and 6'sa few CLRM 20 and 15's for my Longbow and as many Clan LBX and Clan Guass as can be obtained and the Long Tom. You really don't need any other weapons, just buy those when you see them and you're away. A big help is Solaris because while you're away doing the fights there, the lists still move on so you can still pick up your Mad Cat or Hauptman before you would (in terms of missions) if you didn't do Solaris. Always a pleasure taking 2 full on Assault Lances to the beach fight against the Clanners. Muahahahahahahaaaa errrr, I'm not a megalomaniac really.

Never underestimate the usefulness of ISLL...
Great for you lancemates...
Wrath_Of_Deadguy
I love my ISLL. Less worrying about heat, more blasting enemies.

I also like to keep a handful of ISMPLs on hand...a link of two Medium-Pulse set to chainfire makes for a wonderful sky-sweeping anti-air weapon...never have to replace them, either, since they're so common as salvage.
