Full Version: Yet another problem I'm having with Mercs

Arrgghh!
Ok, so I recently re-installed MW4: Mercs, installed every god-forsaken patch, MekPak and map pack. As such, I was all happy happy joy joy about it when I was actually done with all the installations, so I go to run Mercs, the accomidations animations load. Then, when its about to actually run the program, the screen restores to a black screen that doesn't change no matter what I do to it. So I waited patiently for about...an hour or so, until I got fed up and decided to restart it. However, the window wouldn't close. No aspect of Task Manage seems to have an effect, except restarting the computer.

So basically, I need to know if anybody else had this complication and any way to solve it (with the exception of re-installing again I will try that eventually). Thanks.

Sounds like the configuration screen doing its thing. Happens everytime you re-install. After the eula screen a configuration screen will pop up. Thing is that it can take for ever to come up and many times you think that you've crashed. Try task manager next time to see if it's running. If it is switch to it and you should be good to go.

I might also add that somtimes windows will pop up and ask if you want to block or unblock an app. I do not know why it does this, but it has happend to me on occasion. Try and drag the window down while the app is launching and see if its there.

No, I was able to get the configuration screen to work before hand, but Fukushu's comment about the blocker might be the case, I'll check that out.

EIDT: Ok, I attempted to see if it was an issue with the anti-virus. Evidently not although there was only one time I could possibly tell because whenever I move the cursor over the application window, the cursor disappears and is rendered inoperable. I did make it minimize once but I saw no anti-virus window. At this point, I believe I can safely say that I am stumped.

Did you get it fixed yet?

Y'know, I seem to foggily remember someone with a problem like this posting over at MekTek. You may want to ask around over there.....or check the forum.

Have you tried turning off all the extra programs that are running in the background (anti-viru, firewall, spyware, etc). If it fires up, slowly turn them on until you find the problem.

You may also want to run the video configurator directly from explorer. It is autoconfig_mercs.exe and would be found in the "Program Files\Microsoft Games\Mechwarrior Mercenaries directory. Set all graphics settings to low, and raise them up from there. You can use the advanced tab to change out things you don't want.

Good luck

Yeah I was considering turning off the anti-virus and firewall but I haven't been around to do it lately. Got to get my homework done then I will try it...well...that is if I didn't leave my Mercs CD's at my fathers house...sleep.gif
