can I get any of the mechs from them without buying them? I really don't have the money for them (or the time to find one, for that matter) and I have been dieing to try out a cauldron born.

Nah, you need the pack to run the mech.

I think I right in saying that in theory you don't need the packs themselfs' they are on the MW4 disk already and part of the installation of MW4. However you do need a valid license key and its no good getting a hacked one as two games with the same license cant go online together. So yes buying them is the only option.
I have herd recently of a MW4 pack containing BK Veng & Mercs $14.95 so you would think the packs would be around the same but Amazon have them from $50 each (cough splutter!!) what a rip off

I checked a thread over at MWL forums and they suggest this .... Yahoo shopping Mech Packs from $12.95

Y'know, if I didn't play MW so much, I'd be tempted to put mine on Ebay and rake in a bundle.
