I just noticed that for some reason, that the IS and Clan mechpaks have quit working (No pak windows on the menu, none of the pak mechs are present). They were working before, and I haven't updated or changed anything. Only thing I noticed after some snooping is that Mcaffies did an automated virus scan last night, and checking the log I noticed it had detected CDilla as spyware and said it "fixed" it.

I tried just popping in the mech packs and having them reinstall (but not overwriting existing files, becuase of the changes MP2 makes to some of the mechs) but that didn't seem to correct the problem. Also although the CDilla folder is still there, there are no files inside it, which leads me to believe that MaCaffy's deleted the inside files of that stupid thing and it's decided that I'm not an auth'ed user ::sigh::

Am I looking at dumping and reinstalling everything yet again?

Here's a thought, but I;d like some feedback before I do it...

What if I copied the meckpak folders, somewhere, did a full install of the paks, and then dropped the old folders over the new ones? It seems like it would allow me to get the missing files back, and then instute all the Mektek changes without starting from scratch?

That might work. Anyway to get Mcaffee to undo the 'fix'?

have you tried the two MekPack fix utils from the official Homepage?

Ace is right!

When I still used the IS and Clan packs, I'd occasionally lose them for some reason or another. The IS/Clan Safecast Repair Utilities from the official site, and available at most of the big MW sites, has always fixed the problem for me wink.gif

Only reason I quit using them (Clan/IS packs) was because I couldn't stand to have Cdilla running. It seemed to interfere with a few specific applications that where far more important than having a few mechs/weapons I rarely use anyway.

I'd absolutely try using the Safecast repair utility before trying to wipe anything out....

With C-dilla gone, the packs will not work at all, and I do not believe the safecast repair patches will re-install C-dilla. Perhaps Mcaffee quarantined C-dilla. If so, you might be able to get Mcaffee to put it back. It is a long shot, but it would be worth checking into...

I thought of that, but if there's a way to get to the "fix" list, I'll be darned if I can find it. I';m going to try the safecast utilities idea... I guess it can't hurt at this point. And I've copied the meckpak folders just in case.

Wish me luck

Not having any luck... anyone got a link to these?

They're in the top section. It's still useful for -something-, I guess =)

If the Safecast repair utility doesn't work, you can just install Mercs and the mekpaks into another directory and leave the existing install alone. After the install just go into the registry key for Mechwarrior (under HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) and change the path to the directory of the full install with MP2.
