Greetings again, im looking for some Answers.

I often experience that some or all of my Hits do no Damage. I know it happens trough Lag and Netcode, but is there anything to know about reducing these No Damage Hits.

Im often using ERPPC in Vengeance Multiplayer Games and someone told me, that the PPC does only half the Damage it should and it often does no Damage at all. Further he told me to fire only one at once if at all, not regarding Heat.

Whats to know about the PPC, are there any Bugs with this Weapon?

If theres none, i got a Major Problem with these No Damage hits blink.gif

Thx in Advance
Didymus
Because of lag and visual weapon travel time vs. actual weapon travel time, sometimes weapons just don't do any damage. This usually happens more at long range with travel time weapons (lasers are normally unaffected). PPCs happen to be especially prone to this for some reason. My advice- don't try to shoot mediums, lights, or even fast heavies jumping laterally at long range with ppcs. You could try lag-leading them (lead more than you normally would), but that's a really unreliable way to get it to work, and it's more difficult to aim that way. If you really want to tag someone like that at range who's not taking damage, your best bet is the erll.

Thx for Reply, pls more Comments about the ERPPC and the No Damage Hits in General.

What kind of connection are you playing on ?
Also most Vengance servers are no heat servers. So every one takes reflective armor witch is I think 33% more affective against beam weapons. With no heat sinks needed they really load up on the armor.
Wich means it takes more hits to do the damage. Of cource being somewhat evil I use ballistics on those servers biggrin2.gif

& remember PPCs & ERPPCs have a travel time so on moving targets you have to lead them.
Just keep working at it and you'll get the hang of it. Allthough lights & fast medeum mechs are hard to hit.
It's a good idea to have a secondary laser or missile type weapon to use against them.

Once you get the hang of it you'll have a easyer time learning ballistics. They have a long travel time there for you have to lead moving mechs more.

Hopefully my babbling has given you some use full info to use smile.gif

Another contribuing factor is that PPCs will often APPEAR to hit (little lighting crackles) and not ACTUALLY hit. Near as i can tell, you have actually missed them, but since it appears that you've hit them, it appears to be be NDB. It's actually the, "I missed his sorry arse" problem, which is not a bug. cool.gif

They've jacked up the heat so much to try and balance the PPC that I rarely use them anymore. I like ballistics, even for long-range sniping--you can tell when you hit and when you miss with those.

I will leave the PPC in the Mechlab blink.gif

A Sunder with 4ERPPCs is a force to be reckoned with. Especially on normal or cold maps.

On Topic Regarding No Damage Hits, i know have an Proof thats somethings going on. I was playing with a Friend, with a Latency of around 80, and once i hit him and i saw him knocked and his left torso amor was darkened. But no Damage and when i asked him, he told me his mech has no scrapes and looks like a new one ): So it was on my Client only.

Any Ideas, anyone had the same Problems?

Yup Feno, that's normal. Not much you can do about it. Sorry bud. sad.gif

Thx for Reply, if anyone suffers cause of crappy netcode then its at least fair blink.gif

But i whonder, i know there are players who dont have that Problem to the same degree.

Ive got the best possible Connections, so i dont know what to change.

I have a 4meg line and yea it happens.

It's a bug that happens to everyone, some just may be more careful with their shots - as in CT hits, so that it doesn't effect them as much. It's not something consistent either, you may go several games and not have it or you may have it several in a row. You can also get what you described with your friend and they won't show damage on the display then after an amount of time has past they will suddenly show the damage due to the lag in the transfer rate.

But what you will see a lot is what Lemur eluded too, you basically nick them and you see the discharge but you really didn't hit them.

S'good enough for me - I just like seeing the crackle on my enemies biggrin2.gif So what if it's not really happening: check my .sig quotes! smile.gif

It's a pity about the netcode, cuz the PPC has been one of my fave weaps all the way back to PnP BT in the '80s - 'a controlled bolt of lightning? Taz WANT!' smile.gif

The min/max "munchkins" on {rec.games.mecha} never took the weap since "it's not an efficient use of tonnage". But for me, there's the intimidation factor (which more and more only exists in my own head as my opfor's get use to it smile.gif )

But then, I never started playing MP to win rolleyes.gif

Empath, Sorry for the bump, BTW but had to voice my opinons on the 'fun-factor' of the PPC...

Good Link regarding Netcode and why we often do no Damage.
