Full Version: Anyone got a map max vis range chart?

Anyone got all the max vis ranges for the maps written down somewhere? Would you mind posting it? I am thinking something along the lines of Nightlife's previous post concerning map temperatures (?).

You know, one thing I always liked about MW4online.com (before they got hacked) was the mech reference chart. It could be sorted online. Very cool. It would be nice to have one at the institute that could be downloaded. Anyone have a current weapons matrix as well in a downloadable spreadsheet? That would be nice to have around at the institute for reference as well.

Thought you'd like that.

Crap. I knew something like that would happen.

I don't know if a visual range data compilation has ever been done, though I agree it would be nifty. IMO, too few maps have a visual range beyond 1000 that truly allow one to use the max range of the Light Gauss and dumbfired TBolts.

As for weapons and mech references, you're probably familiar with it, but in case you aren't, check out TRM4. It used to be an independent site, but is now being hosted by MekTek. It's not exactly what you are asking about, but there is a whole lot of info there on just about everything, recently updated.

Thanks Gwyd. Yeah, I just gave it another look. All the mech and weps data is there for download as Word documents. Pretty nifty. Map data is still sorely lacking though. No heat indexes or vis ranges.

Here is a specific question that got me thinking along these lines. On Gator Bait, normal vis is out to 800M. But if you zoom, you can see out to 825M. Does this occur on all maps or is there something unique with Gator Bait?

If you want a range chart for maps, open up each map in the editor and go to mission properties. ALL the fog info isthere that governs the visual range. Most if not all have their range set to 1000m for general play. If they dont, admins turn fog off and in my opinion ruin the game.

I dont play mechwarrior 4 online any more because all the good stuff has been disabled by server admins for several years now. Mainly to prevent cheating, but doing what the cheater did in my mind is supporting the cheater instead of banning his arse for the sake of the online game.

A replay feature would have sorted this out once and for all.
Anybody cheating could be checked and all this would not have been needed.

Shame really.
Perhaps something to remember for future mechwarrior games so we can all enjoy all the games features instead of half of them and get a ballanced game instead of the sniper biased game we see today.

I'm with you gisk. I MUCH prefer to play on "default" settings than "clear" all the time. I especially like random settings to mix things up a bit. Thanks for pointing out the info in the map editor.

Nano: The actuall pee soup and light fog settings are there too.

General Fog is the one you want.
Light fog is light fog.
Custom fog is used by the map creator in the nfm for heavy fog etc.
Fog height is the type of fog you cannot turn off via the server admin panel.

Its ground fog basically and gets thinner the higher it is.
Im actually using this in my new minnesota mission to create a dusty desert effect on what is green grass. You dont see green with the fog though, you see the fog colour so the terrain will appear as desert instead of grass. A nice trick really smile.gif
