VoS Chalkdust today--dunno what he was running, but some opponent simply JJd to the top of the hill--SLAM- I exploded.

Sneaked around to one side while my teammates were engaged on the other side, targeted a 'mech that was standing by itself--three weapon knocks later, it was over for me.

Ended up with -800 points when all was done, then map change came and I got booted. (Ghost Cat's something or other...)

*sigh*...a steep learning curve, indeed! ph34r.gif

Why are you getting negative points?

*sigh*...hitting Ctrl-Z, of course.

Had no idea that ejecting would cost so dearly!

My friend. We're 100% friendly in Ronin but there's two main rules in the server.

1. Don't be a jackass. This one is the most important and I am sure you abide by this one.

2. No suicides. It's forbidden in Ronin because it denies your foe from their well earned kill, and it scores against you and your team mates, and in overall it goes against the previous rule.

Please refrain from suiciding in Ronin.

That'll help your kill/death ratio, too goodjob.gif

No worries, then...always liked a 'perfect' score better anyway! (meaning, no kills, deaths ad infinitum)
Arrgghh!

Hey Trashguy, was that you playing as REC Trashguy? Just hang in there. There is a learning curve to Mechwarrior but it's not impossible. Just stick with a chassis you like and learn all the ins and outs of it. Vary the weapons load for the map and temperature but keep the same chassis. Thor's aren't a bad mech to learn in. Try the Jack of Clubs for close in maps like the city maps. Wildcard has serveral very good configs in the lab. Above all keep your feet moving. Don't let the other guy get an easy shot at you while you are standing still. Work at the edge of you weapons range and try not to get tied up in a furball if you can. smile.gif Look in here for some Thor configs.

Yeah, that was me...some team called the Dark Star Mercenaries offered some training, and had me put 'REC' (for recruit) in front of it. *sad smile*

gotta say tho, it was interesting playing against some of the folks here...ask Ivy and Bec how interesting it was!

How does one break a Circle of Death, anyway? It got rather tiresome trying to find some way to fight someone who was running around me all the time...

And, can one tell one's joystick to use the hat switch to change weapon groups?
I've got four buttons plus hat switch up on the stick, and six programmable buttons on the base. (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro)

You can

a. leg the circler, but then again you have to repeat the shot to kill him with the risk of getting splash damage.

b. use one of the mechs with 360º torso twist, such as a Thor, and keep running in a straight line.

c. hit reverse and walk backwards in a straight line. The circler will come in front of you in a couple of seconds. Then you shoot him in the balls and watch the tears flow.

rofl.gif rofl.gif I guess that's one way to do it Haz! You can also use terrain, like buildings, to prevent them from doing the dance around you.
I bet if you ask Sliv another question the answer will be shoot them in the legs POW.gif

It wasn't so long ago that I was a nOOB (November). I lost and I lost but I kept practicing. After about a month or two I started noticing that I was dieing less often and killing more often. Now I'm in a clan doing league drops (and not doing that bad actually). The best advise I can give to you (from one late starter to another) is practice. Just find some open servers and go at it until all the moving, shooting, and watching your back becomes second nature to you. NBT servers are usually populated when ronin isn't and most of the guys are fairly corgal (just remebur to use puretech). You should also read the guides on the front page. Even if you don't intend to fill a role (such as light strike), it will still give you and idea on what your opponents will be doing. Most importantly, stop looking at the kill board. It serves no purpose other than to stroke an ego. Lastly, if someone ever makes fun of you because you learning, just say GF and ignore them. Remebur GF usually means 'Good Fight" but it can also mean "Get F*****". wink.gif
