Getting used to things, folks....rather liking autocannons! One thing in particular that I like (yes, i do biggrin2.gif ) is how your aim gets knocked off from weapon fire hitting you; a great gameplay moment! And, getting whacked by an Uziel's PPC shots distorting your view, with the crackle of circuits taking damage...reminds me of the only scuba diving I did in saltwater, with blurriness being the operative word.

Am I right in thinking that deliberately targeting specific points just takes practice? POW.gif I think I am making a mistake by mostly aiming center mass, as it seems easier to hit it. shocked.gif

Thanks again!

PS: I also presume that when I get a new video card installed (currently running integrated video), that things will look and run smoother? smile.gif

Generally speaking, integrated video is an abomination. No matter what graphics card you get, it's almost certain to be better than that, trust me.

...and yeah, having your aim thrown off when you're hit is what we call 'knock'. Knocking your opponent around to keep them from hitting you is a major aspect of the online game. Installing Advanced Gyro on your 'Mech (on the few chassis that are capable of mounting it) will reduce the knock you recieve.

Deliberately target a specific part of your target takes a lot of practice, but it's a critical skill when you start fighting people. You can beat up a 'Mech all day long without accomplishing much if you spread your damage all over the place, but if you can repeatedly hit one spot (like a torso section) you'll be surprised at how quickly they'll go down.
Arrgghh!
Knocking is one of my specialties and its relatively easy to learn what weapons are best for it.

Autocannons are good but they don't do the damage that I opt for.

LRMs/MRMs/ATMs are nice but they can be easily shot down.

ERLL, good for sniping but high heat generation is a result.

Rockets...my favorite, great ROF and damage in groups. However they suffer from ammo shortages and eventuall heat build up.

I have absolutely 0% skill at targeting certian parts of the body. Its an instinct I guess, I see a mech and I shoot at it, not taking into regards that I could more easily kill it by shooting the legs than the right torso <_< .
Rat
If you want to see the effects of knock, try putting a couple of RAC5s on a mech. Learn to pulse those things and no one will get a shot off at you nutkick.gif
Narson
I should say that using a flea or something you quickly build up the skill of targetting a location. Because its about the only way you will /ever/ get a kill.

I would suggest taking an ER Large Laser on an Atlas and go to town. (Make it your only weapon, slap a ton af heat sinks on your mech and goto town with Reflective armor). You are going to die a bunch, but it will help you with point and click aiming at a torso. If you want to practice with Autocannons, do the same thing with an AC2 on an Atlas with as much ammos as you can get, then goto town and die a ton. Your not their to win, but to understand the Auto Cannon's, speed and aiming and leading.

It's not fun dieing all the time, but you will get better real quick.

Always aim for the legs... trust me, it is the way to annoy people as well as get quick kills.

Actually, the crotch of a mech is even better to aim for, if you can consistantly hit it. Muchos CT damage from hitting that.
