Coming from the Xbox Live crowd and how communication is vital to a team, I figure I had to ask these:

In a team game, how do you communicate with the other team members? Is there headset support, or do you have to do an end run with another program that lets you use a headset? I know there's a chat function, but that would be kinda difficult to use, especially when the ordnance is flying thick and fast.

Also, when I venture into the online world, is it possible to be an observer to a game? Or, are there any gameplay videos out there I could download to get a feel for what a game looks like? I KNOW for a fact I'll be getting my chassis kicked, same as what happens in Xbox Live's Mechassault/Mechassault 2: Lone Wolf.

And, is that regular cheesecake, or the no-bake variety? (bachelor cooks want to know!)

There's a program called Team Speak that we use (there are other programs out there). It works (at least for me) with mic and headphones or speakers. The program can be found at the MWL site under Ops/Downloads (BTW, you will have to create a free account to be able to access this). Some servers will let to join in without a prob, others prefer you ask or wait until they offer you to join in on comms.

Someone else can hop in to correct me or give a better description on how this works.

Trashguy, you can jump in as an observer if it allows to join in camera mode.
You can download in-game videos (edited, of course) at www.mektek.net.

Also, note that as you use another program to connect to comms, you normally aren't in touch with the rest of your team in open games, until you start making friends and they invite you to their comms. I don't remember if either NBT or MWL have open comms for their patrons?

Did you create a MWL account Moth? If you did, make sure you are signed in. I had a database error last night at the MWL. Noticed I wasn't signed for whatever reason, so I signed in and the prob went away.

Went over there today, and couldn't find where they were listed...whereabouts be they hiding?

Also, I've had people warn me of the Kit Fox....what are that machines capabilities? <_<

The kit fox is the old name for the Uller, 30 tons of high speed annoyance with the weapons slots to be really lethal (3 slot omni in one of the arms, this means that short of the heavy gauss rifle and plasma cannon, as long as the tonnage can be found from somewhere, it can mount any weapon in the game). It's probably best used in the harrassment role. If the kit fox has a weakness, it's that the armour is thin and once you shoot off that big weapons slot it's largely toothless aside from a couple of single slots in the other arm which are just as weakly armoured and some small missile only slots in the torso. Check out the mechlab downloads, there's some good configs for it there.l
