And I want to drive one. My poor Uller loses his arms and then I have to resort to ramming the nearest victim. Can some one give me a good mech/config to learn to see the light?
Gwydion
Light 101
1. Get a Raven.
2. Load it up with electronics, medium lasers, and streaks.
3. Repeat.

A bit simplistic, but it's a nice starter.
Didymus
Yup, Ravens are a great light mech to start with. You can also take a wolfhound and load it with small or medium lasers. That gives you weapons all over the place.
7th Seal
uller w/er ppc + 2lrm 10(+1 ammo on each i think)

great scout that can still give a beating laugh.gif

Do I want to max out the speed and then load up? Or try to balance it out with the weapons load/armor/electronics?
Didymus
It depends. Generally, you want as much speed as you can get with light mechs, and weapons are secondary. However, if you want a specific weapon or weapon combination that you may need to lose speed for, don't be afraid to try it. For example, I generally don't run Fleas at their maximum speed, because they're already really fast anyway, and I like having at least 3 machineguns. When I configure Ravens, on the other hand, I usually max out the speed (or run it at the second highest) and then apply weapons and electronics. If you're using it as a sensor mech, then you should probably bring longer range (and heavier) weapons (like a LXPL and some lrms), and make sure you have at least ECM and BAP, if not IFF as well. So just like any other mech, your speed, electronics, and weapons are dependant on what you want to do with it.

Personally, I find heatsinks to be more of an afterthought on most light 'mechs (fast snipers anyway). You're fast enough that you can turn and run if you start to overheat. On the Puma or Urbie they're more important, because you're slower, you can't run to cool off, so you have to keep firing.
KrazyGenius
personally rat, the uller is a really good starting mech. it can carry most everything you need, but it is fairly dependant on its arms.

a good uller config can mount
2 ssrm4s (torso)
1 erll
2 ermedlasers
121 speed
max ff
enough HS to fire alphas for a little, if not just back off either the medlasers or large laser.

the raven is a really good start mech, as you can turn and fire in any direction. the wolfie is also a good starter, but its configs can be a little hot if you don't watch yourself.

also good games on saturday night. you did well against 2 very good ligth pilots and an experienced shadow cat pilot. losing your arms to Didymus and Diomedes is nothign to be ashamed of...they took me out more times than i'd've liked.

oh, and if you want that wolfie config i was running, it was:

110 speed
full ff (almost)
4 small x pulse
couple'a HS
ecm and i think lams

runs semi hot, but it can strip armor really fast for just 4 small weapons.

more help on lights and such, go here--leave your sanity at the door. leotards are to your left as you enter.

umm, I saw the picture of you all in those numbered tights and I haven't been able to go back to the Bell Tower since blink.gif Don't think my hairy legs would look good in tights and I'm not shaving them tongue.gif Thanks for the words KG, think I'll try out that wolfie next time.
7th Seal
LMAO another stronghold of the wakos!!!

that site is great laugh.gif

I've been thinking of making something like that, except with 4 mxp. Better knock, range, firepower... and the wolfie can fit enough heatsinks to pull it off. It'd be slower, though... wink.gif I've run an Ossy with 3mxp and jj, it's kinda warm but it does nicely in a brawl- you can kill other lights very quickly (well, at least Gwyd's machinegun Uller...). Plus jj are just so much fun...

for that first response.....You had help in the form of a streak xpulse raven! plus my aim was going out against you two lights... POW.gif

as for the second, i try to keep the wolfie a bit faster as it has a larger profile, and its arms are what mainly get taken off when you do hit it. upping the speed means more of a chance that a shot will miss entirely...and speed is never a bad thing in a light.

that small xpulse was just about green with it's heat efficiency, any more weapons and it heats up too fast for me to control it (you can hold down the trigger longer with my config). i did try the 5 small xpulse, but it got into being too hot, maybe if i downgraded the speed and gave it the extra pulse that might work, i'll try it out next time i can.

Something ive learned to like from NBT-

"Wolfie" Raven
1 LXP
2 MXP
Reflective Armour
ECM

Great on cold maps
LXP is a nice way to get somesniping shots off until u get in close

I thought it was 1lxp, 2mpl... I've run the lxp, 2mxp before... It's really hot... ph34r.gif

If it were a true stock Wolfie wannabe, that's what it'd carry.
Diomedes
hmm maybe it is - ill have to look at config when I get home
