Full Version: Are Infernos worth the weight?

Hi all,

I have been trying out a number of configs using infernos and I am wondering if:

1) ANyone else is using them.

2) How you are using them.

I have been using them on a pure-tech Raven 3 infernos, 2 small x-pulse lasers and one med laser, 115 KPH, etc.

I was pecking away at Xiombarg the yesterday (he was in a Marauder). Didn't kill him, but I am wondering if the extra heat really cramps the larger mechs style, or it isn't enough to really make a difference.

I know that the map type makes a big difference here.

I also made an all inferno Hellspawn with 2 Med Xpls lasers. I put 4 of these againts me in a number of other configs. If I have a fast mech, they didn't seem to be able to overheat me (if I was careful). In a big, slow mech I was lucky to get off 2 shots before they had shut me down with heat.

It seems to me that a coordinated attack of 2-3 inferno mechs with a fast heavy hitter (Dragon) for follow up might make for a really nasty team.

So I am looking for other thoughts.

2 flammer 2 arty and the rest infernos on a strider//:) fun fun fun.. you dont need to be in a pack of mechs but it does help...

infernos are worth there wieght, better then regular srm 2's and heat up the opposing mech, they are really good to fill up those extra missle slots ona brawler (bushie, hunchie, raven, osi) They tend to make life a bit easier for you, becasue they do heat up mechs quite a bit

Strider w/ 3 Flamers and the rest infernos and you got yourself a BBQ. Find any laser mech alone and its done for the game.

Try this one:

Longbow: 12 SRMinfernos + 2 Flamers .... It's just evil FIREdevil.gif

edit: Oh and it's pure tech.... biggrin2.gif

I like infernos. Alot. The fact that they cause little heat to me makes it even better.

They are certainly worth the weight. The only problem: you have to make sure, that either you have a lot of friends or that your victim has no friends. You can shut down a īMech easily with isrm (5-6 are usually enough). But as you want to keep it that way you want to fire again as soon as the isrm has recycled.
Now the drawback: the isrm do hardly any damage. So you probably wont kill with them all by themself (overheating is a bit difficult as well). So you need
1) some friends to do that for you or
2) some other weapons to get that done.
As you have quite a lot of isrmīs you wont have your usual loadout, so 2) works only decently if you catch someone with his/her pants down.

I had some succes with a 6isrm + 2 spls Owens. I cought a flanking Stalker, shut him down and spent a minute standing (still!) in front of him and zapping away his ct.

i have a templar with 2 inferno agls and either rac or lbx 10s when theyr down

i also have a light strike ares w/ 2erppc and a couple infernos to keep the light and brawler mechs shut down after they pop over my hill without me knowing. good to shut em down and use your advanced optics to find the head. 2 shots and they gone laugh.gif

Try this...

Build a puretech Zippo Raven; 2xIsrm2, Flamer, 2xMpulse & whatever else (BAP is optional, trade for HS on opens).

Now go to a NBT server, preferably a hot map, & hookup with a medium to heavy & stick with him. NBT players tend to be more aware & if you can chat or comm so much the better.

Then you will learn the role of the Zippo. Your job is not to inflict damage but to slow down the opfor. No matter what you do a Zippo just won't garner that many points. But the satisfaction you can get from keeping a lone sniper from firing while your wingy tears him apart...

Well you have to experience it. I've had a few, brief rewarding pairings on the NBT opens that are worth remembering.

In a brawl that delay you cause the opfor might mean the drop, but you won't have many points. I've kept 3 laserboats at bay while my 'mates tore the remaining opfor to pieces & finally turned on the 3 I was suppressing.

What I'm saying is that as a Zippo you have to think team. Stay close to you 'mates.

Agreed Titus...

A walking flamethrower works better with some team cover.

how much heat do infernos generate? i use the 12 inferno/2 flamer longbow (have to live up to my name lol) and i notice ppl can take a couple shots before they shut down

infernos can make a good "extra terror" weapon tho..drop a weapon and add a couple of those and you get instant respect..as well as becomeing a main target .. biggrin2.gif

for instance the hellspawn i like to drive in areas with cover.. 2 inferno2, 1SMRM40 720ammo, 3 ISmed laser, ECM, IFF, and 106 kph speed... sneak up, do some turning and burning and then run away when reinforcements come up rofl.gif

One of my favorite Zippos is a Couger with full FeroFib armor/6x inferno/jump jets/118 KPH

another variation has a little slower speed but with clan flamers

both of them WILL get the attention of your target....BE CAREFUL....YOU WILL HEAT UP AFTER A FEW ALPHA'S (4-5)...

the fun part is where you ramp off a hill with an opfor on the other side of it and chain fire the infernos into the group. Before they realize what hit them, you will be on your way back to your buddies with all of them in tow...LMAO.

In city fights ... stick to brawlers not with snipers or medium range mechs. As they (sniper/medium range mech) shoot and hide almost all the time. This is really bad for zippo mechs ... as OpFor won't have any other viable target exept the Zippo mech blink.gif

Brawlers tend to fight all out and makes OpFor think twice before shooting the Zippo as it means bypassing the rampaging brawler.

In open maps, make sure to harrass in an area where team snipers have a LOS against enemy mechs or have an easy access to gain that LOS.

Haven't got myself much success with 'em, but i've seen those Strider configs in large numbers wrecking havoc in open hot maps and/or non normal maps.

I agree with Tam & Titus on this...
You won't score big, but you can definetely tip the scales in a close drop.
Plus its fun as hell zipping through the Opfor, flamers blazing, infernos wooshing.....
You can almost hear the cursing and smell the bacon... FIREdevil.gif

I love the smell of burning laserboats in the morning... laugh.gif
Hammer
Yep, gotta agree. I just love running my 2xflamer, 6xinferno Strider on a hot map. I don't get many kills, but my mates do. wink.gif
