So what is your most unorthodox design??
Here's Mine
Ares
8 SPL
Max speed
A bit extra armor
rest of tonnage to heatsinks
One of My favourite Ares designs...Heat rarely becomes a problem but if you find yourself in the critical heat zone, switch to chain fire. Your heat while gradually go down, and when it is low enough switch back to group fire.
Ares
8 ERSPL
one less upgrade from max.
Stock armor
rest of tonnage to heatsinks
Hotter and with better range then the above variant. They are mostly used using the same techniques and whatnot.
No I wanna see some of those weird unorthodox configs.....

Bushwacker:
5 IS LRM5s
1 ISLPL
BAP
This has never worked as a killing machine, but boy does it do good harrassment work and it is a bitch to kill.
----
Awesome:
10 MedPulse
I got 5 kills in a city drop with this once, when you trap someone and they go no where to dodge the damage over time of this strips mechs down real quick.
----
Chimera:
3 IS LRM5s
2 ISLLs
JJs
Similar to the bushie config ... but no way near as tough .. the extra speed and JJs allow for it to to be a harrasser better though.
----
Raven:
1 ISLPL
reflective armour
BAP
ECM
LAMs
IFF Jammer
Great when you have some support and you can pile on those LPL hits without having the entire enemy team pound you ... good for scouting too

Hmm....unorthodox....wouldn't that be
ALL of my configs?
Lesee....I guess I'll start with my new favorite 'mech, the Mauler. I don't feel like explaining most of these configs right now, so uhhh...yeah.

I also don't have any of the specifics, seeing as how I'm at school. So I don't know the speed/armor/for some: the equipment/heatsinks.
Mauler2 ERPPC
4 CUAC2
BAP
Works well on hot or cold maps. I've found this one works the best on Oilspill, but is still useable on on Tumbleweed. Just be careful with the PPC. Although, I suppose there's no reason for this config NOT it's a Mauler, isn't that unorthodox enough?
Mauler6 LAC5
2 MRM20
BAP
LAMS
Kind of an odd config, but if you set the MRMs to chain, and divide the LAC5s into two groups of three, you have a lot of knock and quite a bit of damageat the same time. I like to use this one in Avarice City where I can pound stuff as they come through the building intersections.Sunder2 Heavy Large Lasers

my second favorite urbie, once again, use the MXP only when you have to, and jump around alot

I don´t know if you consider this unorthodox, but the
Owens with an Arrow Cluster
can ba quite a surprise / annoyance. You hardly get kills, but you are quite safe. Most pilots will keep looking for the heavy / assault they are suspecting. I really like this ride!

Uller:

Strip all the armour off.
Got called a "Cheeky Git" for killing Jimmy the 1st time i used it.

Oddly enough I was one of the 1st people to use this config, I actually had it set up in BK as well before mercs came out
Uller BKPointsmachine:

Actually a config Xio gave me, Used ot rack points up like mad when playing TAA. I actually got kicked off various servers for "Hacking" with this config, No kills and top of the score table tends to annoy ppl.

suprisingly, it works out quite well, shoot the HML, then the CUAC5, then CLBX20, or alpha, all these weapons do a bit of knock and 4 of them happen to reload quite quickly, so in 1 on 1 fights, you can piss your opponents off a great deal

My favourite Mech:
Hissyo-Ko
Gladiator
4 ER-PPCs
max armor
2 heatsinks
And yes, it's meant to be played with heat turned on
"Heat level critical. Shutdown imminent."
"Shutdown over-ridden."
"Shutdown over-ridden."
"Shutdown over-ridden."
etc....
Think Redline Pilot from the CCG (Collectable Card Game) just don't play it on a desert map.

Then my second similar variant, about as irritating, but more efficient:
Carrion
Sunder
4 ER-PPCs
~22 heatsinks
~68kph
Obviously these are used with single, cycled shots. Keeps their targetting off a bit. Also keeps the heat down to more manageable levels.
~= approx, it's bin a while since I have had the time to play so I don't recall the exact figures I'm afraid.
One more
Hauptman
8 UAC 2s
Fired in 2 groups of four. Don't use it very often as it will annoy people almost as much as the RACs. Also you are not likely to get enough hits in to do the damage required to oblitorate in anything other than a one on one.

Fafnir-Area denial 8 long tom tracers 3 ISLL ECM Couple of heatsinks
Little bump in speed
Armor to taste (or More weapons) Set the tracers to chain fire, loft a few dozen towards the opposing side.
The constant stream makes a really amusing pattern. Keeps the enemy's movement limited...
are they tracers? or are they the real thing? Nobody's wanted to find out yet!

Keep the large lasers on standby for anyone who gets close and shift position every once
in a while. Have one of your teammates call out changes in range and drop and walk the "Fire" to the
Bad guys.
Carpet bombing the other team's spawn is a good way to keep them distracted. You could also short the speed,
get rid of the lasers and three of the tracers and put a real long tom in instead. Now they really will run for cover!

the RACs give you an anytime slap of damage and knock, and the gauss are the real punch. try not to use the lasers constantly, it can heat up. great for medium to long range coverage.
