This started out as an interesting concept, but I don't think I like how it turned out much. Let me know what you think.

By the way, this is based on my belief that you took your callsign from Diomedes the Trojan War hero who wounded Ares - not the evil city lord who wrestled Hercules and had horses who ate people. cool.gif

Ugh. That text at the bottom is way too hard to read when sized for the forums. Disregard this attempt. I'm going to try and re-do it.
Diomedes
Card-

That's exactly where the name is from and I love it. What about a picture of a Spartan mech? Its a lot better then what im using now. Thanks for thinking of me. smile.gif
Diomedes
Sorry, i looked up the Spartan and it doesnt look nearly as good as my short, squat beautiful thanatos wink.gif
Hazmat
What you saw is anywhere close to this?

Take off the forearms, place a couple of omni gun mounts and that truck can sit in my garage any time.

However, I don't think we have any 3D, textured version of those.
Mentawl
Haz - that's an ARC-2R Archer smile.gif. Spartan (SPT-N2, 3058 TRO) looks like

Do any mechs have the classic greek Hoplite Helmet? I was hoping the Spartan did but it didnt : sad.gif
Hazmat
Ack... a case of macross/battletech confusion.

Hoplite helm? The Black Knight in the TROs, but it's ugly.
Azrael
The Huron Warrior has a headdress effect that is close. maybe a little hack/slash with some new arms and legs and you have a personal spartan.

OK, Dio. I replaced the original. You may have to refresh the page to see it correctly. Let me know what you think.

Oh man, that sigs remembers me the excellent Ben Hur movie!

Good job card!

Thanks, Vic. I enjoyed doing this one a lot, simply because the story was so cool, and before this I was unfamiliar with it.

See, apparently Ares had promised Athena that he would stay neutral in this battle in the Trojan War. Athena was rooting for one side, and had helped them along here and there, but hadn't gotten involved in the fighting. Ares shows up, is overcome by bloodlust, draws his sword and jumps into the fight, butchering mortals left and right.

So Athena gets pissed. She's really fond of this guy Diomedes, so she throws his spear carrier out of the back of his chariot, jumps in there herself, and utters the quote above. Diomedes charges Ares with his chariot, knocks him down, and then jumps out and stabs Ares with his spear. (which I think Athena had blessed so that it could harm a God) Ares flees the battlefield licking his wound, and the good guys win.

Cool story. cool.gif

Really nice sig there, 'Card. Being a big mythology buff, I dig the hell outta that. I would like to make just a couple of suggestions if I could, though...

First, the font used for the quote is too plain- I mean, Athena is talking here, ya know? She deserves a lot better than your basic Times New Roman (especially since it's got that nasty Roman word in it). I would try something like Calligrapher Regular or Chaucer for a formal, handscribed text that would still be quite readable, or go for broke and use killigraphy (I love this font). That will give some good, antique flair.

Second thing is that the color of the name is still a little too close to that of the art. They're blending together a bit. See if you can up the contrast on the name, or make the shade just a bit more vivid.

Just my two copper tarns wink.gif.

Actually the font I'm using there isn't Times New Roman. It's called Pegasus. Got a little more flair to it, it's heavier on the serifs, and it's a little fatter than TNR. I tried several fonts that were more antique-ish, more greek-ish, and a few that were of the hand-written type, but I'm walking a very fine line between legibility and artistic value here. If I go with something with more pizzazz, then I have to make the text bigger to compensate on the legibility side of the scale, and with the quote already being so long I wasn't willing to give up more real estate to just text.

Valid point about the contrast on the name though. I want a 'stone & sculpture' look to the whole thing, but I might be able to jack that up a little.

To tell you the truth, I just wasn't pleased with how the thing was going at all until I added the crimson stripes. Those kind of made it all come together a little bit.
Diomedes
Wildcard its fantastic. Im a big fan of that story. Aphrodite tried to meddle in the fight also and Diomedes wounded her hand. She went crying to Zeus who told her she shouldnt be on the battlefield and to stop whining. Ares was always a big bully anyway and Athena getting the best of him was always the best part of that myth. Combat skill > brute force. Now all I need to do is to figure out how to use the graphic as my signature. wink.gif
Fury
Right click on the image-->properties--> Address. Copy the addy, go to your controls--> edit signature--> IMG--> paste addy in pop up.

Hope that's semi-understandable smile.gif
Fury
ah- looks like it got figured out wink.gif
Diomedes
Thanks for the help, Fury. Despite being totally computer illiterate, I managed somehow to figure it out. Well, even a stopped clock is right twice per day. blink.gif
