I've recently moved to another country and unfortunately the area I'm in doesn't have "high speed" available. I'm now running on a dial up. Rightfully so I've been getting comments on my high ping and I suspect they look at my ping when I warp or they notice excessive lag. Neither of these are anything I want or would intentionally do, I would much rather play on an even field without any of the "lag shielding". The question I have is basic, is there anything else I can do other than establish my connection as 56k to help with the high pings and lag?

I'm on a
2.4 GHZ Processor
256 MB Ram
Windows XP
Intell Graphics video card

I'll go look in the drivers and whatever if more info is needed.
Secondly if I play in predominantly big mech games the lag seems to be much less, usually no comments at all but I don't want to spend my time in the arena's or the pick up slug fest's. It's more fun in the team battles and mission play. I notice it's when there are several of us "high pingers" , mostly medium to light mechs in a match that it gets really bad, just wondering if I werre to predominantly play in a stand off support role with a large chassis would that negate some of the lag or at least make it less noticable? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm one of the regular laggers.

Actually lagging affects the high pinged player(s) more and low ping players almost always benefit from it. Low pingers always see the exact coordinates of a mech better than high pingers. Except when both parties and/or the server lags.

Try to host a server, and let someone w/ ultra high ping to join. And just fight, one will see how much advantage a low ping could do. While the laggy player will be butchered over and over (he / she just couldn't get the real picture of the battle).

Although to keep the comments to a minimum i drive bigger / slower mechs, 'coz its not a good idea to explain these things during a game if i chose to pick a fast light mech.

Big slow mechs are easier to hit in a laggy environment as "lag shooting" is easier as compared to hitting a fast light mech that's ever changing vector.
