Looks great man goodjob.gif
catzcradle
nice, I'd add either a drop shadow or a outer glow to the shadowcat to make it stand out a bit
Wildcard
Better than my first one. cool.gif

What function is that to make the edges of mech glow? Also can anyone telll me how you do weapons fire? btw heres another 1 im working on.
catzcradle
nevermind, re-read.

OK, assuming the scat is on a layer, open the layer properties, and hit the checkmark for outer glow. and you can adjust size, diffusion, etc.

For weapons fire, what I do (lasers) is create a new layer in front of the mech. create a path, then stroke the path with a brush that has a solid core with a diffused outer area. After that I usually apply a a sight blur to it to make it look softer. I'm searching for a tool I have in micrografx that makes a straight-line lightning effect. It worked perfectly for laser fire, but the lightning effects I have for photoshop doesn't do straight lines well....

First try at one for myself

little bit bigger.

Absolutely sweet. Wish my fist attempts were that nice. And I love the ka-niggit ya got there. That is one seriously imposing war horse.

Word of advice... ya may want to try and keep 'em around 250x500 pixels, lest Thrashdog catch ya wink.gif. But seriously, that's really nice.
KnightofStromgald
k thx for complements hope this one meets size requirements.

Yet another try hear sorry to be spaming but having lot of fun trying to learn all this stuff.
Fury
ahhh.... don't worry about the spamming at all! These are looking really good. Couple of things to try out and see if you like them or not:

Try centering up the crest in the background, and maybe increasing the transparency of it so that it's kind of faded looking.
Make the name bigger, bolder and with a brighter color, perhaps. It's a sig, after all..... wear your callsign proudly! The gradient on it is really nice looking, but right now it kinda blends in a little too much with the background. Try going in and adjusting the contrast levels... or maybe the color saturation if you want to keep the gradient look.
Oh... one more thing. Have you tried putting a hint of a glow, or stroke around your mech and the night, to bring them off the background a little bit?

Merely suggestions, and all aesthetic..... try them if you want, and see if you like it. I've been a fan of mideival period stuff for years, so I'm enjoying watching this sig progress! Keep the images coming!

All right with much help and guidance from the lovely Fury. I have gotten my sig down to a work of art in my small and pathetic minds eye. Also much thanks to wildcard for hosting the signature for me. Yeah 2 days and done *at least for now*

What software are you using?

Most programs can do similar things, but have pretty different ways of doing them. So by telling us what you are using would help us give you better advice smile.gif

And that is pretty darn nice looking for a first try smile.gif
KnightofStromgald
Ahh hehe well I figured that out and I'm Using Photo SHop 7 now trying figure out how to do weapons affects lol.

LOL np smile.gif

For lasers...in Paint Shop (I'm asuming you could do the same with Photo Shop) I made custom lines in the line tool. Then I would draw the lines in a sperate layer, the I would keep adding a glow to the line. Oh yea and right at the point on the mech where the laser fire is leaving, I'd use a starburst effect and add a gradient glow to that too smile.gif

I have absolutely no idea how to get gauss effects sad.gif The only thing I can think of is to take screen shots of gauss fire and carefully cut away the background and paste it to your sig.... I think CC does something similar.

EDIT: I havn't used any graphics software in a few months and am beginning to forget some of the right terms and a few of the specifics, but I hope you get the idea I'm trying to put accross wink.gif

EDIT#2: One thing you might want to try messing around with are mask layers. You could use them to make the edges of different layers slightly transparent to make them seem to blend in with the background a little better. But you seem to be off to a great start.

One Im working on for my friend any suggestions?
Thylacine
Dump the Burnt edges on that one. Use the lightest shade from the flames for the glow on the mech and the name.
Quarzark
has anyone ever had their nipple bit off by a beaver?
Gnosis
I kinda like the Burnt edges, but yes, do drop the pale-yellow glow, and use that bright flame orange. smile.gif
