Welcome to Microsoft, where all our products are buggered.

A "Disk 2 error" usually means you've gone and bungered up your terrain files. Possibly by putting files in the wrong places. Or even missing them completely. I'm no expert, but try redownloading those maps and putting everything where they are supposed to be. If it doesn't work, reinstall and try again from scratch.

Report back what happens.

Yep. Sorry. Sounds like your terrain files were corrupted somehow.

This is a reprint of a reply I gave to someone over at AlphA Strike that had similar problems. Their issues were with some of the New Battlefields maps, but since the release of MT1, the problem has been somewhat frequent.

A disc 2 error means that you don't have terrain files in the right location. I believe the proper path for the terrain files is c:\programs\microsoft games\mechwarrior4\resource\maps.

The New Battlefields maps came with an installer that put everything in the right place, but it would seem that the MekTek Pak1 wanted to shuffle around some of the terrain files for some reason, as the disc 2 error is one that a lot of folks seem to be getting recently. Custom map files got scattered all over .

As far as a fix or a patch for this.... I'm not real, 100% sure. Judging from what I've been reading, it seems like folks are having to organize their maps the hard way.  I haven't personally downloaded the pak, so hopefully someone that's had more experience with this can come along and answer your question on what you can do to get everything straight as painlessly as possible.

Don't know if this will help you any, but at least it lets you know where to start looking.

I dunno why, but I get an "insert disk 2" error when I try to boot the game while the CD is in my CD-RW drive...as soon as I move it over to the DVD drive it runs fine blink.gif

Too lazy to make my own post, so I used the one closest to my problem tongue.gif biggrin2.gif

If my memory serves me correctly...

If the server is running a custom map, and you get that error and you have the map installed, it can mean two possible things...

1) You have a different version of the map
2) Where you installed your map in relation to your Mercs folder is different from that of the server's install. I think that the server checks to see if you have the maps in the same place in relation to the games root directory and if its not, it will produce that error. The map would run fine in single player, but has to be installed in the same way the server installed it. Basicly when you install the maps, follow the instructions to the letter.
