Well, after "borrowing" CD1 for a reinstall, patch, pak, I can join a server hosting the pak. I can't see the new weapons or mechs in the lab. I can see the new mechs in game and there are times when a mech points at me, I suddently take damage but see nothing. I'm guessin I can't see the weapons fire artwork.

I haven't installed any maps or other addons, just straight Mercs PR-1 with Pak. blink.gif

same here. haven't tried playing on online yet but the new mechs and weapons are definitely invisible. I'm going to take a breather after a frustrating weekend following all the tips I could pick up from the Banzai boards and others. After nearly driving the hard disk insane with repeated CRC checks , I will let the pc rest and have another go at it this weekend.

ps. stripped off everything too, even deleted the directories for a clean Mercs and PR1 install. The official Mektek switcher assumes you're online to do the job properly, which was a bother. Followed the NBT tip for 56K modem users and downloaded the Xpack file using Gozilla. Even then WinPatch kept popping up and asking for the patch file even though the patch file was clearly in c:\Windows\temp.

Finally got the Pack to install using the tweaked unofficial Switcher which doesn't assume an online connection. Will probably use the Mektek diagnostic tool to see if anything did go wrong after all.

Thought everything was fine then but apparently it will take a while. Will do a check of the entire hardware setup first, then go through another round. I'm determined to leave PR1 behind.

I downloaded the MP1 file and installed it, and then used the patch switcher....

Think the instructions told me to do it the other way around, but it worked for me just fine....

Dunno if that helps unsure.gif

when playing on Thylacine's server, i noticed the damage displays would change color from getting hit, but no knock or weapon trail...and the server was not crowded at all. he said it might be packet loss...

also, same server but earlier i was firing 74 points worth of alpha into a marauder with only light damage blink.gif blink.gif (i hit with all of the alpha too) and under basically the same conditions.

I was online and fighting, I couldn't see any of the mechs in lab, only in game, server ping had been around 90-100, my pings where around 110. I repeatedly saw Marauders (dang they looked small compared to the monsters of MW2) that took far more damage to kill than seemed appropriate. Urby and Avatar were really small too, strange scaling.

I finally pulled my install off and removed everything (Veng, BK, Mercs) as well as deleting the residual directories and went through the registry searching on mw4 and removing anything game related, finally rebooting to clear registry saved in memory. Tried reinstalling but the IS/Clan paks wanted to attach themselves to Veng. Deleted everything and ripping through the registry again.

I know it can work on a clean install, for kicks I created a clean W2K Pro install in VMWare I have on this same system and installed everything, works just fine but VMWare introduces a lot of overhead and game lag is automatic if played this way. (I use it to play MW2/MW3 on WinME).

I'm gonna break on this till Thanksgiving when I have some free time. I really wish the leagues had waited a little for the dust to settle.

Fully understand where you're coming from. I was getting foul tempered near Sundays end and that's when I came to my senses and stopped everything.

I'm going to up the system's memory this weekend because I suspect 128MB is not going to cut it anymore. I'm also taking a hard look at the internal modem because it's one of those DSP things that depend on the CPU to do substantial work for it. Got an external modem (ie. a real one that doesn't need the CPU to back it up) on the shelf that will get installed if I do get online and things still lag despite the memory boost.

About the Phantom shots part... I have noticed the following:

1. The Marauder dies just fine.
2. The Ares seems invincible: I have to shoot at the hip joint so I can have any hope of damaging the CT
3. The Warhammer seems very vulnerable in it's right torso.
4. The Avatar is one tough armadillo.

However, has anyone else noticed occurences of the old-but-not-forgotten No Damage Bug?

that's right here (basically, don't know which weapons were NDB)

but as i said, Thylacine said that it was packet loss because the MP uses a different connection to the server (or something like that), with the packet loss serverside and that it is not the usual no damage bug, but it was happening quite a bit blink.gif too much for anyone to ignore it that was playing on the server.

Silly question Brewder, but I saw it happen on another board. When you went to the mechlab did you click on the "new" button and first create one of the new mechs? As for not seeing the new weps in lab, that's a new one on me.
Brewder
Didn't think to do that in the MechLab. I did go into an existing mech to find weapons, nothing.

After setting up shop on a virtual install on vmware and seeing everything just as it was supposed to be, I doubt the mech would have appeared.

I'll see later when I get to try this again. Am so tired of spinning CD's.

Did this, created a completely new Chimera - the new 4 point energy slot wasn't there. I'm going to do the whole install over , with reboots between major operations.
