Howdy, thought I had everything working, but apparently not

Everything's working fine, except the BK maps. All are giving me the dreaded "Access Violation" error when the drop begins.

It seems to me this was a common problem with Mercs, when the BK Map Patch came out, but I can;'t find the thread that discussed it.

Any got a fix or idea on how to remedy this?

What I did:

Ran theBKMapPack.exe.
Pulled the map files from the BK Disc.

(Used the same procedure for the Vengence Maps and had no problem with those)

Did you run the Patcher?

If you don't run that, they don't work. I recall getting an error like that when I didn't patch them. Yeah, I had them, and the server acknowledged I did, but since they weren't patched, they would crash when I would hit launch.

If that doesn't work, reinstall the BK maps and run the patcher again.

just looked in my maps folder... missing the update.exe (or update.bat, depending on what you read) that supposed to be in the BK zip. Anyone know where I might get it?

You're gonna have to reinstall the BK map pack and terrain. Just how it is. If those aren't there, it means there wasn't a proper install.

Just full reinstall, hopefully it shows up this time so you can patch them to make them work.

Found the Update.exe... ran it. Told me the maps weren;t there. Checked... yes they are. Pulled the maps of the BK cd again, ran the installer and the terrain thing, then the updater... told me the maps weren't there I'm looking at them right now.

This is getting really frustrating, real fast

Nactwulf, are you sure you were running the update.bat, and not the md5.chk? Both are DOS progs and look similiar. The checker will not see the maps unless the .bat has been run first. I had quite a bit of problems with BK maps at first, try running the install process on the maps and then the terrains. When the Winpatch comes up select repair. Then run the update, then the checker.

I've been getting quite frustrated with those maps recently - turns out that I forgot to run the patcher...

I put the MekTek patch on a clean install, then copied my Maps, Missions, and UserMissions directories right from my PR1 install into the MekTek one and I haven't had any problems.

same thing happen to me last night during practice.. i had the maps in my folder but somehow lost all my terrains for them when the patch installed.... so i re dl all the terrains and the work fine now... dont know if it helps or not but it worked for me...

Finally got it to work.

On a lark, I d/led the maps needed from the NBT site, and loaded them in a temp directory.

One thing I noticed is that the NBT downloads are a different size from the ones I pulled off of the BK disc.

Ran the mission patcher, then the terrain patcher, then upadte.bat... everything worked fine.

Where you able to get the terrain files from the NBT site?

I think that is where I went to get the terrain files but those links sent me to mektek and the terrain links did not work.

Will check again later.

Go to the main NBT site, then to downloaded, then to the BK section... they;re at the bottom.

I think I managed to get the terrain files installed the other night.
