Well my main XP system patched fine but my sons Win98SE has run into a bug (yes we have two legit Mercs)

1. I created the UpdatesCache Folder put the patch in it and run thw swithcer from the Mercs root directory
2. The patcher runs and starts the auto update function
3. Wtih winpatch 1.3 screen pops up and I sellect the patch.

I get an error saying looking for the mekpatch.wp001 or something

Where did i go wrong?

Same here, as in Brewder's thread my Win98SE setup kept barfing during the installation process. I was only able to install it after I used the unofficial non-Internet dependent Switcher. Winpatch kept asking for the file but refused to recognize it and kept outputting that mekpatch.wp????

[got the invisible mech problem though after installation :

How much memory do you have on your machine? I have 128MB here, one of my suspicions is that the process needs more memory than that.

I just might try the step X, reboot, Step Y, reboot etc... that I saw recommended in one of the threads.

Its got 512mb SDRAM

What I may try is to copy the directory from my XP machine and paste what I need in to see if it works

Sorry Eon,

I'm silent on this one because I've recieved three different results from testing the install process. I have it working on a rack server I use for personal consulting, though is has tons of disk, multi cpu and scads of memory it has a minimal vid card though so I only tested the install pocess and running a dedicated server. Went very clean no problems. Also, the VMWare testing I've done so far has been pretty straight forward.

The Win98/ME problems are very indicative of of the OS, rebooting between major changes is the norm. Failing during an install / patch can set you back to the beginning so on those OS's, it's a safe bet to reboot between major operations. I have no idea but I'll be surprised if you can install

128MB ram should be plenty. I ran my VMWare system with that. Ghost mechs firing I think had nothing to do with CPU and more to do with an incomplete patching process that left me without texture art work. I have never had ghost mechs, I was able to see new mechs just fine.

BTW MT, the new mechs did look good!

I don't have anything to say about damage on new mechs, testing that in an online game is a poor test. LAN play with targets sitting very still and while moving would be more appropriate, they did this type of testing, I haven't. I may just suck at targeting these mechs. I have somehow, memorized torso sections to shoot at on the old mechs. I'm lost on how to kill a Marauder in 2 shots. Beaning it on the nose didn't have the effect I had hoped for. lol.gif The jumping Urbies died quite nicely though. tongue.gif

My overall impression is that if you had the HudPatcher and used it for many different things (something I had done) that you will have problems. I have no idea if the MercQ Skin tool has any effect. I messed around a lot with that as well.
