Hi, I had a problem installing the patch. Here is my story. I am now a happy user and have it running... EvilCow already replied back to my message posted below... So, I no longer need anymore help. Just thought this info may help someone else...
What happend to me is that since I have a 56k connection at home, I went to work where I have a T-1 connection and downloaded the patch. Then I brought it back to home and copied the files to my computer.
Well, there are 2 different set of directions on how us 56k modem users need to install the patch. The
instructions that come with the download are evidently wrong, but the instruction that are on nbt.com are correct. Also, and additional glitch seems to be with the wording of the button, or lack of a "Check Hard Drive" button on the installer for us 56k users. I tried to install it using the correct directions, but I was not "on-line" at the time, so
the installer stopped, and the "Auto Update" button stayed greyed out. Also, > there was no directions that stated I needed to stay on-line for the process if I had previously downloaded the file.
Another problem is that the location/folder where the good directions tell you to place the file does not exist - "UpdatesCache". You have to creat that folder yourself first then put the patch in it, but the directions do not tell you that. Another confusing thing is that there is no "button" on the installer that says anything like - "look for file on computer" or similar. The only button is "Auto Update", and it stays greyed out unless you are on-line.
Even when on-line the installer stops and requires you to select a "download" location, or else click on "Auto Update." Well, neither of those options seemed to be what I needed since I already downloaded the file. The Auto Update button will only work if you have previously created the above mentioned folder, and placed the dowlnoad in that folder, and you are still on-line. Perhaps it's me, but that all seemed a little confusing since the directions were not that explicit as to all I had to do. Especially since the directions said that the installer would "automatically" select, find, and install the downloaded file.
So, since that first attempt failed, I tried following the directions that came with the downloaded file. Well, that altered some of the files and thus the installer could not proceed. So... I just blew the whole thing away and started again. This time I just happened to be on-line and to have created the folder and placed the patch in it, so the install process worked and "Auto Update" was available to click. I still was unsure that I should click on it, but I did as a last resort, and so the installer did find the downloaded file. Whew!!!
So, if you know anyone that has a 56k connection, tell them to first create the needed sub folder "UpdatesCache" themselves, then put the patch in that folder, and to stay on line while installing the switcher, even after they have downloaded the file. Then they need to click on "Auto Update" to have the installer scan the created folder and
install the patch.
p.s. - Please dont' take all this as anything negative. I LOVE the new stuff. Thank you SO MUCH for all you hard work.
