Full Version: Dumping Hudpatch...

I seem to have the hudpatch imbedded somewhere in my system and can't uninstall it - I used the add/remove program in my control panel to remove the patch and assumed (like anyone who's ever actually used it) that it would uninstall it as well - of course, not.

when I run the game (I'm not even trying to patch until next week when I have the time to sit down for hours and deal with this!) I still have the grids come up on Alpine, telling me that the hudpatch is still there.

any ideas of how I can get it off without doing a Mercs re-install?

Hiya!

Before ditching the Hud Patcher, run it and chose "default (uninstalled)" as the setting. That'll remove all the patched stuff, and give you back the "normal" mini maps, HUD and such.

Then, you should be able to uninstall the Hudpatcher by going to it's folder... there should be an uninstall.exe there.

When I installed the pak I just marked the hudpatch back to default. Then installed the new pak. Seemed to work.
shadowhand
Yup, shiv is right - after you install the MP, just run the hudpatch again if you want - works like a charm.

what part of "IT'S GONE" did I not explain in my first post?

install it again - then run it and choose "[default] uninstalled" for mercs. - after that you can uninstall it if you want.

What they're trying to say George is that the add/remove action you executed from your software panel is not the same as the uninstall/return to default option you can select in the dropdown list of the Hudpatch program. Be sure to hit "apply" once selected.

except that it's nowhere to be found - the folders are gone; there's no program on my computer that relates to the hudpatch.

I'll go see if I can find the program somewhere online and "install" then take it off and see if it makes a difference.

simple, sure... if you're a computer savvy person.

This is one of the many problems with Windows, they squirrel away stuff in the registry that is difficult to remove if the uninstall does not work correctly.

You could try to search using regedit but that is difficult at best and could be dangerous if something is removed that is needed.

Good luck.

I got some sort of an answer over at NBT, but I'll wait until next week to do it - frankly, I don't have the time right now to run oot and aboot doing re-installs of this and that and renaming files and all...

and they don't even have ALL the Unseen mechs...

bah.
shadowhand
Uhm... All you have to do is download the hudpatcher again, run it and turn off the enhancements...

You don't need to rename anything... And this is a small file - 300kb I think - shouldn't take long to download...
Tamaraw
I found fresh PR1 .MW4 files in my copy of "old MekTek weapon's pack directory".

The .MW4 files in this directory was renamed / copied to a file w/ similar name and a .bak appended to it (ie. props.mw4 --> props.mw4.bak).

The props.mw4.bak is a fresh PR1 copy and same with the rest of \resource .mw4 files.

Just use EC's utility to verify this "bak" files (after copying 'em to Merc's \resource directory and renaming them back to their original names - ie. props.mw4).

This will effectively remove the HUD patch altering of .MW4 file.

I don't have the time right now...

I hear ya Georgie but when you do find the time to carve out, I recommend punting and redoing this from scratch. I've been reading various posts and looking at what happened to my install and I don't really feel it's worth the time to try and recover an old install gone wrong. Just delete all and reinstall.

In your case since you have a definite mess, I'd just go in and save my decals, delete all and work from there.

Save this : C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Mechwarrior Mercenaries\Content\Textures\customdecals

- Uninstall the IS/Clan Paks then MW4 Mercs
- Delete the directory " ~\Mechwarrior Mercenaries "
- Reboot (really, there are still things from registry in memory)
- Reinstall Mw4 Mercs and IS/Clan Paks
- Reboot
- Install MT XPak
- Install maps, etc.

The only likely issue you will run into is the SafeCast problems but that only happens if you have certain other software packages on your system (I don't have the list). If so, you need to download and install the following BEFORE you install the MT-XPak.

InnerSphereSafeCast_Repair.exe
ClanSafeCast_Repair.exe

Good luck.

where do you get the hud patch anyway?
shadowhand
Well, I got mine at MekTek... However, uh... I don't know if their server is still down... It's been down a couple of times during the weekend - most likely due to immense interest in the MekPak...

Highly recommend that you stay in mt pak install land of bliss for a while before considering the hud patcher. cool.gif I imagine there will be other changes once things settle down with the pak. Being able to connect and play is more important right now then changing your hud.

Unless you are a NBT player, then you really do need the 8x8 grids on the hud map mode.
St. George
managed to get it all fixed up, tho now I seem to have the 8x8 grid lines on my maps... odd, that...

still, can't say much good about the patch - doesn't really do much else than give more heavy/assault players more mechs and that's kinda boring for us light peeps...

I would have liked ALL the Unseen mechs and LAMS instead of these particular ones, but c'est la vie.

just gonna have to join the LB and chase the assaults around for a bit - think they're compensating for something?

laugh.gif
shiv
Nah, its the assault pilots that are compensating.......w00t.gif
St. George
that's my point...

if you're driving a marauder or a warhammer, I think you're feeling a little "underrepresented" in the power department, if you get what I mean...

nudge nudge, wink wink...

Well, it would just be a matter of running the program again and disabling the custom .tek files, then installing any updates to the MP...

Hmm, though I guess repeating that procedure every time will get a bit annoying...

I do love that energy reticle though...

I think the big mistake being made here is uninstalling the Hudpatcher.

There is no need to uninstall the program, you only have to choose "Default uninstalled" from the options in the Hudpatcher.

If you uninstall the program with out choosing the "Default uninstalled" option first, you will still have dirty files and the MekTek mech patch will not work properly.

Even if you install the Hudpatcher again it may not remove them.

So good luck and remember clean installs are fun.......LMAO!
