OK... tried to install MP1... no dice. MP1 seemed to lock up when it got to the Props patch area.

Checked my files... dumb me, I left the NB stuff there.

Uninstalled everything.

Reinstalled Mercs... fine, no problems

Reinstalled the IS Pak and Clan Pak...

1st Problem. Mercs is not recognizing them as being installed. They installed into the now defunct Vengence folder. (vengence is no longer on my system) How do I get Merc to recognize they're there? Am I going to have to start with Installing Vengence First, then the M$ paks, then Mercs?

You shouldn't need to install Vengeance at all...

Maybe a problem with Safecast for the Clan and IS paks.....

Try the safecast utility first, it only takes a few seconds...

Actually you will likely need to uninstall everything first. Fresh installs of MW4 tend to crap out when overwriting old files.

Ok... reinstalled mercs, then the packs, ran the safecast stuff... no dice

unistall
delete the mech folders
reinstall mercs
reinstall clan packs

Did that, removed everything, deleted any "leftovers," reinstalled mercs, reinstalled the is and clan pak, ran the safecast proggies. Still didn't acknowledge that the paks were installed. (showed the same old basic mercs screen, and apparently created a vengence folder fo the is/clan paks).

Don't know what I'm missing and way too frustratied to bother anymore tonight.

Looking at reinstalling beginning with Vengence on Sunday, just to get Mercs to regester the paks and try to get back to at least where I was before I attempted the Mektek pack.

Then, I'll give the MP1 one more shot. If it locks up on the load again, then I'm not sure what I'll do.

Here's what I did when I kept getting the CRC error:

Uninstalled HUD patch
Moved Mercs folder from C:/ProgramFiles/MicrosoftGames/ directory to C:/ProgramFiles
Installed Mercs to default C:/ProgramFiles/MicrosoftGames directory
DL and installed PR1 patch
Created UpdatesCache folder and placed in default Mercs directory
Placed MP1 in UpDatesCache folder
Placed MT switcher in default Mercs directory
Ran MT switcher, when it asks for DL site just hit install and it will find MP1 in Updates folder and apply it
Reinstalled MS Clan and IS mechpaks to default directory
Copied and pasted Maps,Missions,UserMissions,Pilots,Varaiants, and texture folders to new install
Compared directories and copied and pasted any folder from original install that was not present in new install
Launched the game
Died over and over in my Strider with 6 Infernos and 4medlasers

Foloowed Pyre's posted procedure... worked like a charm. Haven't tried the patch switcher to see if I could go back to "classic" mercs yet, or hopped on to a zone server, but the MP1 seems to be working fine in single player.

Few minor questions (before I start experimenting):

Answered MekTek Patch Switcher: Do I run it before starting Mercs, or after to switch? (I'm assuming before)

Answered MekTek Patch Switcher: Will it always default to MP! when I start Mercs now, or is it a "true" back-n-forth switch?

MekTek Hud Patch, Ops Bright, Mini-maps: Will they work with MP1 and if so... do I have to install them to both MP1 and CMW4 to gain the benifits to both versions, or is a single install good enough?

You use the switcher (it puts a shorcut on your desktop) to start mercs
Then you pick Either Pr1 or the Newpack.

Question #3..... Well I haven't tried the hud patcher again. with all the random cdc error being reported, I am a little hesitant to re-install it.

You guys are making it way too complicated... It really isn't that difficult... Hmm, no need to uninstall anything - but, if you have, then yes, you need to install mercs first, then the is pack, the clan pack and the pr1 patch... - if the packs aren't working then you need to get the safecast repair utility - however - if you are using 3d studio max or turbotax you might not get them to work anyway - seeing that they also use safecast and that they tend to kill the mechpaks... completely removing the hidden folder C_DILLA from the root of your main partition (C:\ for most people) before installing the packs then running the repair utilities will fix that problem - however it will kill your turbotax/3d studio max installation.

Anyway, after this, run the patch switcher from mektek - possibly having placed the patch in a new folder named UpdatesCache in your mercenaries folder.

Then apply the hudpatch if you want - works fine for me - you'll need to run the hudpatch and select the "[default] uninstalled" option for mercs before getting MP2 from MekTek I guess but - that's not really something you need to worry about yet I guess...

For somepeople it is that difficult. You do have to uninstall the any hud patches

Well, yes, the hudpatches, not the hudpatcher itself though.

ive had probs with the paks not workin in the past.....theyre there.....all the varients in the folder and all......but on mercs lobby screen.....didnt showed them insatlled....i reinstalled.....and yes they got installed in VENGEANCE.......what i did was delete the pak folders from mercs and copy the ones from VENGEANCE.....and bam they worked fine.....give it a try !
