Hello TB! Looking for some help. Please oh please oh please.

I cannot get both my Joystick and Nostromo working at the same time.

I bought the Nostromo based on other warriors using this set up for MW4. But I have been unable to get them both working at the same time since I purchased it many months ago. I am desperate to get it up and running.

The Joystick is a Logitech Freedom 2.4 cordless that works on usb.

The Belkin Nostromo SpeedPad n50 also is a usb connector.

I can get each of them to work in game (mw4Merc) individually. I cannot however get them to work both at the same time. Inside of the the MW4Merc options both are listed under the Joytsick dropdown. So it only lets me pick one. [no, the regular keyboard isn't the answer] I have been using just the Joystick and a little keyboard for the past few months, but I stink at using the keyboard.

Brewder was kind enough to send me this direction to BI.

Any help is appreciated, the longer and more detailed the response the better.

Thanks,
LiquidEL.

PS: Thanks for having the open servers also!

Hey Liquid, welcome to the Institute. cool.gif

I'm not really sure what to tell you, man. I use exactly the same set-up, and it works just fine. Belkin N50 speedpad, Logitech Freedom 2.4 cordless joystick. In-game I select the joystick as my primary controller (because the speedpad is really just emulating keyboard commands) and everything works great except for the scroll wheel on the speedpad. It conflicts with the throttle on the joystick, so I just disable it.

Let's see... you say you can get the speedpad to work with the game if you're not using the joystick? So that means you've got the Belkin Loadout Manager loaded and running, right? You've got it set up so that MW4 is the default profile and it opens whenever MW4Mercs.exe opens?

*pondering*

What OS are you running?
LiquidEL
Win XP Home. Service pack 1. P4 2.66. 9800pro cat3.8. 1gig ddr400. Dx9.0b.

Thanks wildcard, if nothing else it gives me hope that someone else actually has it working.
LiquidEL
BINGO!!!

It wasn't the scroll mouse. It was the D-Pad. I had to go in and set every possible input from the DPad to "OFF". Then it worked. With out it set to off, no button worked what-so-ever. And actually it had no assignments for the game, so it didnt have any conflicts. But it didnt allow the Nostromo to work.

Thanks Wildcard, Brewder and Banzai!

PS: Wildcard you just switch your left hand over to change your throttle speed? Sort of wish the scroll wheel could work, but I guess Ill just hafta to learn a new trick! goodjob.gif

No, honestly (and I hate to say this) I use the d-pad for my throttle.

We're talking about the little 8-way switch under your thumb, right? I have forward on that pad set to the 'accelerate' key, back = 'reverse', down = 'stop' and up = 'jump jets'. If I need a specific speed (like when i'm moving in a formation) sometimes I'll reach to the keyboard and hit a number key, but 99% of the time the above commands are about all I need for movement - but it des take some getting used to.

In any case, glad you got it working man. It's a nifty thing, ain't it? cool.gif

Gotta Love it! Speedpad and the Jtick is an excellant combo.

Oh, come on now... that's a little harsh, don't you think? The truth is, Banzai has four formations we generally use for League play.
1. The "OK, all you dumbasses follow me." formation.
2. The "Big 'ol clump of 'Mechs" formation.
3. The "Scattered all over the damned place" formation.
(and last but not least)
4. The always-popular "Where the *&^%$# is everybody?!!" formation.

This one is priceless! This quote needs to be placed on the main page of the site.

Akrin, the speedpad was around $40 last time I checked. Belkin have since released a new version, with an extra row of keys, PROPER mousewheel and some other cool stuff, so the original may now be even cheaper.
LiquidEL
Damn that is funny stuff. rofl.gif

Curious, did you have to disable the Joysticks throttle Wildcard?

Thanks again, btw.

I always enforce #1. On my last OpFor run (which we won, squashing the TB NBT drop team bppirate.gif )...

[TB] Brewder >: ok guys, you are getting really spread on me, the thor and madcat need to come back this way
...no response...
[TB] Brewder >: you two are skylining, get over here now or i'll shoot you myself!
[TB] thorpilot >: i thought there was another thor and madcat you were refering to.
[TB] mcpilot >: yeah, we're only 200-300m away...
[TB] Brewder >: that's too far, i want you within 100 and on the opposite side of ridge
[TB] randompilot >: lol
[TB] Brewder >: if i wanted scouts i'd have asked you to drive one

For the TB NBT drivers though I have to say, we have come a LONG way from the early days. I always see a tight team in formation except when the view gets too pretty. Even with radar off. goodjob.gif

Thanks for helping him Card. I knew you had something similar but I couldn't find the thread you had when you figured it out.

No biggie, man. This is what we do. (whenever possible) cool.gif

Liquid: "Curious, did you have to disable the Joysticks throttle Wildcard?"
No, not on the Logitech Freedom - but here's where I learned an odd thing from using the speedpad...

On my old joystick, which was a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold, apparently when the throttle was maxed out, the joystick sent a more-or-less constant string of commands to the game saying "full speed ahead!" (or something like that) So I actually had to ease the joystick throttle back from the 100% mark, and then it would let me control the 'Mech's speed with the speedpad, without constantly being over-ridden by the joystick.

As far as I can tell, the Logitech Freedom (with the Logitech Wingman software installed) only sends signals when you move the throttle, so I just leave the joystick throttle maxed out and never touch it, but it listens to the speedpad instead. If I move the joystick throttle it will go to THAT new setting, but then as soon as I send a different command with the speedpad it listens to that one instead.

I've been considering an N50 or N52 myself, and I've got another question: How well does it handle multiple inputs? I'd be using it for other games like Freespace 2, where I sometimes need to hit 3 or more buttons at once (ie equalise shields, drop countermeasures, and hold down the afterburners, maybe transfer gun/shield energy).

Looks like it'd be good for 3DsMAX as well, especially if I can map the 4 extra buttons on the N52 as modifiers.
[AS] Rebel
I use the SpeedPad, as well. I think I got it for about $25-30 from TigerDirect.com a couple of months ago.

Grendel, it will handle multiple games just fine. You can set up several profiles and then load them manually from the SpeedPad control panel, or you can set it to automatically load the proper profile when a particular game's exe file is launched. It also has shift keys to allow you to attach up to three commands to each key/button. Quite a handy little gadget. cool.gif
dr_eclip5e
There is a hardware issue with the n50 and mulitple inputs. Normally it's fine, but certain combinations of 3 buttons can lead to a 4th one being activated also. It's only on certain keys though. You should be able to work around with with no problems. It does do multiple inputs though.
Grendel
Thanks, Doc. I turfed my Strategic commander due to its inability to handle multiple simultaneous button presses. May have to pick one up tommorow smile.gif

Akrin I picked one up for $25 a few weeks ago... great toy just need to get used to the damn thing... eek13.gif
