Everytime I click join to go to a server it freezes. I end up having to restart. I've download the directx 9 end user runtime and windows sp 1a. I've also turned on/off my firewall and inetrnet connection sharing. I also deleted and reinstalled mercs. Ran out of ideas please help.
Brewder
Are you connecting with dial up or cable/dsl?

Do you have a router or is this directly connected to your PC?

What version of Windows (W98/2K/XP)?

Do you have MW4 Mercs SP-1 downloaded and installed?

by the way, on the microshaft site they say to open certain ports, how would i do that, cuz I am not a computer expert.

Thanks

If you're using a modem but no software firewall, ports shouldn't be a problem. Are you sure that the built-in WindowsXP Internet Connection Firewall is disabled?

Try joining a server by its IP address.

Yeah, I have the firewall disabled should I have the internet connection sharing on or off. How do I join the server by Its IP address.
Thanks for the help.

I usually get aconection speed between 37.2 and 45.2 Kbps and never got disconnected, and now all of a sudden after downloading windows service pack 1 and direct x9 end user runtime I get 115.2Kbps and get disconnected every 15 mins.

I searched for similar problems like this but haven't seen anything. It sounds like the upgrade was for a V.92 modem type which has high compression and those speeds. You could always go into the Modem setting on Windows and throttle it back to 56K. That might help stability.

- To find a server by IP, start up MW4, enter into Multiplayer Mode.
- Under Connection Type, if you already have something, edit it, if not make a new one.
- Make sure you are set for Dial up, likely one of the settings under 56K considering your connect speed.
- Under Connection Setup, you have ZoneMatch and Server Name or IP Address, mark both of them.
- Put in the IP addresses of the systems you want to connect to and close by clicking Next.

That's all. You should see the IP markings for systems in your browser when you connect.

Still can't get mercs to join any servers. Fixed my modem problem thou. Thx Brewder. I just don't know what else to do to mercs. I've unistalled mercs, veng, clan paks, maps, variants, pilots, and after deleted them I did a search for anything with mw4 in it and deleted that too. I reinstalled everthing and downloaded pr 1 and no luck. The funny part is if I try hosting it runs perfectly,PLEEEEAASSEE HELP!!!

Do you get any error windows or it just locks up?
Add a -window command to your mercenaries shortcut so that it looks like :

".....\Mercenaries\MW4Mercs.exe" -window

This will run mercs in a window so you can bring up the task manager when it locks up, and tell 1) if mercs is not responding or 2) it's waiting for your modem to do something. You can check 2) by looking at the connection icon in the task bar and see if any packets are being transferred.

I would think you need to upgrade your modem drivers, too.

Kill any other programs that run in the background and suck up your bandwidth: chat applications, for example. Run an anti-spyware software to see if you have any advertising programs running in the background.

Just out of curiosity... how far out are you from the servers, are you outside the US? What's the PING to the servers? You may have a good connection speed but a bad packet loss problem. Check the phone line for noise.

No I don't get any error messages, it just freezes. I hit ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager and it says mercs is not responding.

I can host a game and I can see the list of servers but it locks up when I try to join or click back. Every other aspect of the game works fine.

I don't use chat programs or download music or anything like that and I live in miami.
