What config has stayed with you. Which ones are always there through patches, expansions, boredom... just about anything.... Which ones are always fun in any weather, any game, and on any map. I know I have a couple, and others have a few that stayed favorites since the release of Vengeance, and even in earlier games.
-----------------------------------------------------
Ye Olde Scat -- and my only custom shadowcat
ERPPC
Clan LBX 10
2x ER Medium Laser
Jump Jets
102 kph, 8.5 T armor (ff), 2 heat sinks
I purchased Vengeance a couple of days after release, and a day later I discovered how fun it was to play online. This was my second config, and is still one of my favorites. I never played earlier versions of Mechwarrrior online, or even on a LAN. But I had great fun with the single player games, and I wish I had discovered the online group earlier.
-----------------------------------------------------
A Madcat for all seasons --
2x ER Large Lasers
4x ER Medium Lasers
2x Clan LRM 15
BAP
LAMS
80 kph, 12.0 T armor (ff), 17 heat sinks
This was my first config. Even taking it into the blistering heat of dustbowl was lots of fun. Run from the flamers. Or sit there and get flamed. This one passes the test of time.

Since Vengeance. Tweaks over time in armor, sinks, and speed due to new components and changes in heat scale, but same weapon systems as in the beginning. Current model:
Vulture
ERPPC, ERLL, CLRM20(X2ammo), CLRM15(X2ammo)
ECM, LAMS, EO, 7 HS, 75kph, 9.5 tons FF
My sneaky little b*****d.

Bushwacker.
CUAC10 and an LXPL in the CT. Lots of speed. Lots of armor.
(got versions with reflective, versions with reactive, and versions with FF - but the basic formula remains the same)
Mad Cat.
2 ERPPC's and 2 Light Gauss Rifles.

Mercenaries MadCat
2erl, 2cuac2, 2clrm20+1
12.5ff, bap, 75kph
I dont use this one now, but it was very good in Veng:

I tend to default to this pure-tech mech:
Templar
+ 4 Light Gauss
+ ECM
+ 0 HS
+ Small speed bump & armor tweak
I built it to be the "Hopping Bastage" Killer, and found that it worked for a lot of situations. You can alpha into the shadows and surprise the heck out of someone, or chain fire them to keep the mediums who are rushing you from getting a clean shot.

I'll say it: 6ERLL Mad Cat.
Massed ERLL can just do things that no other weapons system can match. Need to pimpslap that Wolfhound who's running around dying 4x for every kill he makes but leading his team's scoring by twice as much as the next guy? Ye olde laserwhore. Got a Catapult that needs a little plastic surgery? Ye olde laserwhore. Feel like chaining the hell out of someone for no particular reason? Ye olde laserwhore. Need to anti-poptart? Ye olde laserwhore.

1UAC20+2tons Ammo, ERPPC, 2SSRM6 Cauldron-Born. Got punch at pretty much all range thanks to the ERPPC (hit them near the head in a FFP game and they're blind fo ~10 secs) with knockout power close in. Also,
4RAC5 + 2 tons ammo each, 2ISLL Templar. Cheap, sure, but effective.

This is probably the very first mech I made in Mercs:
Thor - Divine Tempest
2 ERLL
1 CGauss
1 LRM20 rack
ECM
LAMS
3 DHS
85 kph
13.5 ferro
A heavy weapons platform that is suited for med to long range.
My mixed-tech Dragon is the second custom that I use regularly on non NBT servers:
Dragon - Firkaag
4 med lasers
1 HGauss
1 RAC/2 w/ extra reload
No electronics, stock speed at 85 kph
11.5 tons ferro
Brawler at heart, but Dragon is too easy to hit at close ranges so I usually modify it to this:
1 ISLL, 1 HGauss, 1 RAC/2 no reload
Or if I'm feeling crazy and playing on a cold map:
Dragon - Shen-Long
2 ERLL
1 CGauss
1 RAC/2 w/ extra reload
ECM
85 kph
11.5 tons of ferro
I still use that one regularly.

6ERLL madcat users: cheap cheap cheap, go and play with it on one of the NHUA veng servers, whrere u will find a lot of pople with similar configs.
If the game was intended to be boated, the dev team would just make 1-3 stock boats of each mech and would NOT put in the mechlab.

Luckily there are reasonable people here that take different weapons on a mech like the 2erl, 2erml, 2lrm20 madcat, its good not to feel so alone amongs the boaters.

i like boats, they let me get the best out of my mech, and via that get the best out of me as a pilot.

psycho, that scat is probably the best out there. 3 er, 112 spped, bap and jjs and good reflective armor.
for city maps, find a high building and try this, i call it the mini-thor
scat-2 er 1 lg 1 ppc. no leg armor, 77 speed. this is why i said find a high building and dont get shot, cuz you will die o_0
but the one mech that has never ever once let me down is the 3 erl 3 lg mk2. best mix of firepower, range, and (if you are a pimp with gauss) accuracy.
then there is everyones old faithful, 7 er, no sinks nova kitty. i hate to use them, but in battlezone league where your team must average to 70 tons, i gotta use them a lot.
here is a new daishi i came up with about 2 months ago. 4 erl, 1 hvy gauss, 2 cg. i think its a 108 alpha. trust me, its a monster.

I've always done well with it, but have used the smaller mech's more over time. Floating with an alpha while holding those RAC's steadily on a center torso is a wonderful feeling only to have the LL's and the PPC cycle a second time. Cool off quickly and go again if you didn't do them in the first time. A fun mech! Yeah, I need to dust him off again.

15.5 tons ff armor (tweaked, max except on the head)

5 extra heat sinks
the weapons are spread out, only 1 torso area has 2 weapons. this is good for me if i lose parts of my mech (happens often), and i can still fight back.

Mercs (Pre PR1):
