Here's the problem... when I get killed, I'm not respawning (or so I thought). I get to sit there looking at my burnt out skeleton of my mech.
Here's some info...
My computer (#1):
FIC AU-13 mobo
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
2x512mb PC-2700 Kingston
Leadtek GeForce FX5600 256mb
Win XP Pro
Mercs + PR1
both Mech Packs
Son's computer (#2):
FIC AZ31 mobo
Athlon TBird 900
512mb and 256mb Samsung PC-133
Apollo GeForce 4 MX440SE 128mb
Win XP Pro
Mercs + PR1
Router Port Forwarding and DXport settings are correct on both PC's.
Scenario #1
Both PC's in LAN game, no problems
Scenario #2
Both PC's in same online game, PC#1 doesn't respawn, PC#2 does respawn. Joystick trigger, "Enter" key, any other button/key does not change game screen to other players after being killed.
Scenario #3
One or other PC online with Mercs, no problems.
Scenario #4
Both PC's online but in different servers, same as scenario #2.
I just did a simple test. Went online with both computers, joined different servers and scenario #2/4 description is as stated. BUT... I happened to notice something... some combination of keys somehow got my HUD up but still looking at my dead self. Then I realized that I DID respawn, but for some reason, the game did not put me back in the cockpit. After I was killed a second time, gameplay returned to normal... I respawned every time after that IN the cockpit. Any suggestions??

First guess is some network problem. I will look into it more in depth later tonight if no one comes up with a response before then. What is the model of router?

Unclecharlie,
Your IP forwarding may not be enough info to keep the game synchronized. You may want to try putting one of your machines in an exposed DMZ, and letting the other hide behind the router.
Never tried playing through two running through the same connection in MW.

Give Mr. Coffees advice a try. I think it will work.
I am thinking that the packets might be being looped to the wrong machine. Just an idea.
Still looking into it..............

That used to happen to me a lot. It is lag. Packet loss, actually. You stay connected to the game but you failed to receive or send that single critical packet that instructed your computer to respawn. This is possible because directplay uses UDP as the internet protocol, and if a packet gets lost there is no way to know that happened.
If you did nothing that could change your network, then I would advice (sp) to do the following:
1. Look for trojans (http://www.anti-trojan.net)
2. Look for spyware in your computers (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/)
Oh, and some servers do not have Force Respawn on... so you may want to try clicking the mouse to respawn.

Thanks for the responses. I still find it out that it is happening only to my computer when we play at the same time. I'll give DMZ a shot. Almost did the other night but changed my mind.

Nope... nothing seems to be working.

More questions....
do you have enough UPLOAD bandwidth to play both at the same time?
Do you have the connection settings in MW4 set accordingly?
I mean, if you have 1024 kb downstream, but are stuck with 64kb upstream... then you will have problems playing with both computers on the same connection.

768 down / 128 up tested at dslreports.com
another possibility that was proposed is that i am using the same game on 2 computers and there may be a possibility that there's a conflict with the product id number. i'm running mine off a virtual drive and the son has the cd.

C-Dilla is not the problem, or you would not be able to play on a LAN or even join the same server on the internet. You can launch, so it's not it.
Lower the connection settings to 56 or 64k in both computers, and start testing on an empty server (not hosted by any of you two), then start playing with other people, 2 more each time.
(No one will provoke me with impunity ... that's a good line. 42nd highlanders).

Guys, we don't really want to support people who are making copies and playing copies of this game. I'm sure you can find a cheap copy of mercs at your local computer store for your son.

I'm not assisting further but I'll clarify what Victor is saying here. BTW, TB abides by its server host rules, one of them does not allow the transfer of information about cracking software licenses. Nothing personal UncleCharlie.
If you connect to the same server with the same product ID, the server will either reject or have problems with the second player that hits the server. Also, the Zone does something similar. Mercs is going for pretty cheap at the store right now, pick up a second copy, it should correct your problems.
