During a battle today my mech was killed and when I saw the outside of my mech just before it blew up there were flares stuck all over it. What damage do the flares do to the mech if any?

I also tried a new tactic (at least new for me). Can't say it was very effective but I believe I got a couple of kills due to it. Had a loki with LRMs and a narc beacon. Ran passive until I was in range with the narc beacon. Stuck one to a mech and then started firing the LRMs. Looked like it worked, the missles seemed to head for the beacon. Pretty sure I got at least one kill this way maybe two. Is this as effective as gaining lock or is it less effective? Figrued I would try this since waiting to get a lock was pretty much guaranteed to end up with lots of fire being directed at me.

Any other "tricks" using other weapons? Does the narc beacon work with all missles such as the long tom and arrowheads?

Flares do 0 damage. It's just that TBers love to use them for their combined tactical uselessness and their capacity to blind FFP pilots (not 3rd. They's immune to Flare blinding)

Flares actually do .25 damage tongue.gif I went around with a 6 Flare Longbow and ended up getting 3 kills laugh.gif

Tonight I had a thantos with 2 flares and other weapons. Was fun sticking flares all over the other mechs. Not sure they even realized it or not. Was fun anyway. Will have to try that on one of the many many night games that seem to run on the servers.

In low visibility no radar environment, flares can be used to tag an opponent and for some annoyance too - that bacon sound! laugh.gif

Dunno if its possible 'coz i haven't experienced it myself... some says that flares could blind an opponent mech if hit and flares sticks on its head?

NARC an opponent, go passive an unleash those streaks!

Yes, flares do blind FFP players when it sticks on or near your head.

I'm an incorrigible FFP player. I've been blinded. I use flares, for the grins. Sometimes they're handy in those poor vision games too. Tagging the enemy is a good idea in the chaos. There's nothing like the futility of lighting a mech with 12 or so flares, and knowing that you won't kill it. I have an Uziel with paired flare launchers, and an Argus with a flare launcher on the same trigger as a gauss rifle. Flares will slowly cook a mech, hence the sound of morning bacon. They do some kind of futilie damage and may add heat to the target.

Best thing to do with Flares?

Take a Flare, and Flamer Nova Kitty into a NHUA server and go crazy laugh.gif Ask Kalie, we did this on a server a while back (smurfing of course), it was hilarious! We both managed to kill this Vulture too laugh.gif

actually flares do only 0.01 damage...not 0.25

Flares can be fun. Last night I joined a night game in the gladiator pit I think. The other team used a lot if not all light mechs. They came charging in running all around. I was able to tag a lot of them with flares. Lots of fun. Should have had my thor with the lbxs. I think that would have done better than the au2s that I had on that gladiator against the plague of lights that hit us. I think we had something like 80 or so kills they had 40 something. Thier score was higher though.

Flares make spam pretty.

Actually. some of you may have played against me and noticed when I'm in a smaller mech I use flares. Now, these arn't just for annoying you, I swear. Due to my high ping (I've never gotten beneath 300) I tried different tactics to improve my accuracy. Anyone who has played with high ping knows that the computer will make "ghosts", that if you aren't careful with, will take your last volley of ammo. A scenario I've had once too many.
But, there is a cure! Yep, Flares. That little noise seems to be unnaffected by ping. So, if you hear the bacon cooking in one place but see the pan in another. Play the game by ear and you're more likely to walk away with a BLT. happy.gif

Thread revival time. laugh.gif

Yeah, flares don't seem to do a lot of dmg, but from my exp. a few months ago flares will add some heat to a mech depending on it's config. Usually when I was popped with a flare it's just noisy, but I had a Hauptmann that was shut down by a volley of flares. My Haupt went *boom* shortly there after. laugh.gif I don't know if the flares have been adjusted one way or the other to reflect some kind of dmg or heat being done to a mech though... Something else to try sometime I suppose. smile.gif

Well try this little flare tidbit on for size. In a sniping practice one night the teacher/target was only allowed to use flares primarily due to their inability to inflict damage and the ability to prove without doubt that he had scored a direct hit; supposedly to teach us "noobs" about the value in terrain useage. blah blah blah blah, anyway back to the point, when he tagged my Chimera with a flare it would not fire. Nope nada zip nothing coming out that goes boom. It was wild and I've never done anymore research but it might be worth another go just to prove or disprove.
