Hmm, that's coolio.....something about the red doesn't match though, not sure what it is....maybe it's just me
What about doing a black with a (dark/light) grey outline? And maybe a Bevel and Emboss to it? I dunno, just an idea.
I like that background, but something about the mech stands out a bit. Maybe add some noise to the Gladiator, or run the (assuming you're still using Paint Shop (this is for 7, but I'm gonna guess, if you're using 8, it still has the same filters) and not Photoshop)
Effects > Texture Effects > Rough Leather, with these settings
Luminance: 8
Contrast: 0
Sharpness: 0
Blur: 6
Light Color: #ADADAD
Angle: 45
Leather Color: Black
or you can try
Effects > Artistic Effects > Aged Newspaper at about 10 years to age, it gets a bit dark there though.
or there's one other thing I just found, that you might try.
Effects > Artistic Effects > Brush Strokes
Length: 1
Density: 1
Bristles: 33
Width: 5
Opacity: 50
Softness: 7
Angle: 102
Color: #505050
You could even run a few unsharpen filters too, that might do the trick. Just a few ideas, fiddle with it and see what you can get out of it. And then it might just be my eyes being stupid on me, and seeing something that's not really there

Anyway, as I said, it looks really cool, but that Gladiator stands out a bit too much. Keep up the good work

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Effects > Blur > Soften filter on Paint Shop, that might do the trick to.
