Does anybody know a way to speed missile lock-on time?
It's quite rare for me to get a missile lock on for LRMs very far out, and that makes them sort of useless, it seems. Besides BAP, how can I speed the time it takes for me to get a missile lock on?

Besides BAP, nothing short of steady aim and practice can speed missile lock-on time.

I personally suck with LRMs, I haven't used them in ages.

Practice and developing a smooth hand is it, I'm afraid.

Aside from steady aim.
Try locking on mechs that could carry ECM/BAP... especially the long range variants (ie. Loki / BK / Atlas w/ long range configs).
The electronic emissions from those two equipments + BAP will surely shorten the time to get a lock on.
Although if just beginning to use LRM's... ECM missile boat is much easier, as this won't broadcast one's position away to almost all the active enemies.

In my opinion the
best missileboat is the Loki, since it can hold ECM+BAP+LAMS and the equivalent of 4 cLRM20s with extra ammo.

I'm not a professed "Missle Maniac" but have heard from experienced "missileer's" that if you will load up an LRM5 first followed by your remaining missles it cuts your lock on time by 20%.
A second trick passed on by those missileer's has been to load up a short range laser to accompany the missles and when the reticle goes red and you fire the laser it will give you a missle lock on; don't know if this is really the faster lock as it may just be attributed to you spending the time with a red reticle and firing which keeps you active and appears to make them lock up quicker. <_<
Have fun missiling.

If I am passive do missles have a harder time locking? If I use BAP/ ECM do they turn off in passive and delay a lock?

LRMs require active sensors in order to lock. If your sensors are passive, they won't lock at all.

I think he may be asking if his being passive will prevent a lock on him by the enemy. The answer is "no".

Sorry, I was tired when I wrote that. Yes, I was speaking from the targets pov.

Thankyou, next time I'll look a little harder. Sometimes is difficult to weed though all this wealth of knowlege (even with search).

I know what you mean. I knew it was there because I started the thread.

you need to get the target thing on long enough to lock on then you just have to fire it then you just run while you wait for your missels to come up

Use NARCs. Get good at them. Problem solved.
