Greetings, dudes. Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but since it's a graphical problem I figured it'd go best here. Here's my problem: you see that avatar I'm using right now? See the ugly white all around the pic? I'd like to remove that white and make it so that it adjusts to the color of whatever forum I go visit. Essentially, how the heck do you make that stuff invisible? I'll go ahead and attach the pic to this post as well.

I just used the Magic Want tool in PSP8 to select all the white in the background, inverted the selection (so only the...thing...is selected), then copied the...thing...into an image with a transparent background.

Hope you can understand that, it's 8AM and I can't...

Same for Photoshop. Same tool. Just use that tool to click on the white background. Assuming the image is a clean and closed one, this should give you a nice selection of everything outside the image. [Meaning the white background] Then simply hit delete.

You can only have a transparent GIF file. JPEG apparently doesn't support it.

Thanks, guys. I'll be sure to remember that if I need to do a similar thing to some other pictures. Oh, yeah, forgot to tell you what the thing is. It's a Scizor, from Pokemon.

Hey, you'd like it too if you used it. Nothing like a bug with a shell of pure steel (literally, it's a Bug/Steel type) to get the point across.
