I used Paint Shop Pro mostly or sometimes Adobe Photoshop.

I find Paint Shop Pro alot more user friendly than adobe, but adobe is the more powerful (and more expensive) of the two.

Photoshop 7, there can only be one.

I forced myself to learn Photoshop 6. I think I invented any number of new swear words while I was doing it, too tongue.gif

Whatever I can get my hands on....

I tend to do text and basic graphics in Fireworks 4. FW lets me mix vector and bitmap graphics with ease, and the interface is pretty good. For cool effects and texturing, Photoshop has no equal. You can also do decals in PS, because it has TGA as an output option. I use PS 6 because I'm too cheap to upgrade to 7.

If you are on a budget, or don't have access to one of hte big names, PaintShop Pro has come a Loooonnngggg way. Pretty good stuff, though I personally don't like the interface. I've gotten accustomed to FW and PS.
