(Yes, there are watermarks on the HDR image - haven't gotten around to actually buying Photomatix yet)

Normal photo: (the middle of the three exposures)

HDR photo:

1/100, 1/400, and 1/1200 exposures, f/10, Canon 40D camera. I probably should have used a higher f-stop, but I only did like two shots for this.

The picture isn't much in terms of content, but I thought it showed off how much of a difference it can make. biggrin2.gif

I'll probably be spamming more of these from time to time, hopefully with actual content. tongue.gif

You know, I've heard of HDR but I'd never really done any reading on it until you posted that. This warrants further research, I think.

I can definitely see the value in it if it helps me bring up the shadowed areas without blowing out the high end. I mean... I can do some of that with the Curves function in The GIMP, but there's always a trade-off.

I wonder... if you shot the original in RAW and then saved it to three different .jpegs with three different exposure levels, could you achieve the same thing? If so, that might be a really interesting technique for wildlife shots.

I think Photomatix can generate pseudo-HDR images from single RAW files, yeah. The one I posted is actually from three individual RAW files, though.
