Full Version: BAP or FFP or ECM?

I am trying to teach myself to be a (shudder) pop tarter, using a 4ERLL Grim Reaper with Bap AND ECM, but IIRC wasn't there an issue with one of those electronic packages giving missile boaters a near instant lock on me? Or was that IFF? I have the Jump sniping guide but it doesn't mention it. Anyone know?

I asked a similar question a couple of years ago. I'll see if I can track it down for you.

ECM increases the time it takes for the enemy to lock on to you, and has no effect on the time it takes you to lock on to the enemy.

BAP decreases the time it takes for the enemy to lock on to you, and it decreases the time it takes you to lock on to the enemy.

Passive radar has no effect on the time for the enemy to lock on to you, and your radar must be active to acquire any lock on the enemy.

Any missles with the Artemis feature will reduce the amount of time it takes you to lock on the the enemy, but will not have any effect on the time it takes the enemy to lock on to you. Any advantage from Artemis equipped missles is negated when used together with other missle types.

Streak missles have instant lock on. Missles fired when a friendly NARC beacon is active will have instant lock on. Jump jets, LAMS, IFF, Enhanced Optics, and Advanced Gyro have no effect on missle lock time.

Please note that all of these effects are cumulative; so a configuration with BAP and Artemis missles will have a very low time to lock on to the enemy.

Also please note, that if you're jump sniping correctly it won't matter how quickly the enemy locks on to you. By the time your fire is returned, you should be back down behind cover...that's the advantage of jump sniping. wink.gifcool.gif

Here's the explanation of sensors that I got when I asked. Link. smile.gif

That was a good find Rat, we actually had a (mostly) intelligent discussion there.

thanks guys, that is a good read. The issue at hand now is that since MP3, the Reaper no longer has BAP, just ECM. dry.gif Ah well better than nothing.

I don't recall the Grim Reaper ever having BAP. I always thought of it as an ECM Ryo.

Here's a shot of the MP2.1a Mechlab. No BAP.

Yeah my mistake...I was confusing IFF and BAP. uhm..nevermind. blush.gif

It doesn't have IFF anymore? That's interesting, I hadn't noticed. They also moved the hardpoints and put all the lasers in the arms. I guess they wanted to take away some of its advantages over other mediums, though I'm somewhat surprised as usually things like this are done based on some community outcry about "uber" mechs, and I never saw that many Reapers out there cleaning up.

Yeah I didn't notice either...Oh wait, that's because I wasn't here back then. biggrin2.gif

I'm still gonna play around with it. I have one loaded up with 4CERLL and a RL20 for when the bad guys get too close. We'll see how it goes.
