I caught some type of virus or other malware on my computer last week. Couldn't clean it out because it resulted in my computer simply failing to reboot after shutdown. Anyway, long story short, I wiped the drive and reinstalled Windows XP (SP2) from a disk. I then went through the process of reinstalling all my software and MW4 (including the maps, patches, etc.).

Everything was fine for a few days, then I installed iTunes onto my computer for use with a new iPod. Since that installation, I cannot connect to any MW4 servers. I can see the servers, and ping them to see who is playing, but when I try to connect I get the "Cannot connect to selected game..." error message.

All other programs that requires internet access are fine, however my Windows Firewall seems to be impaired (which may or may not be related to my MW4 problem). The Firewall was working upon my reinstallation of XP, and I unblocked MW4 when prompted, but it seems to have been disabled since iTunes was put on. I can't even access the Firewall to play with the settings, it tells me that ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) is disabled, and that it can't start ICS because of a dependency group failure (Error 1068).

I had also had some contemporaneous problems related to a missing file (framedyn.dll), but I obtained the file online and those error messages have gone away.

Anyway, I don't know if the problems are related, but for some reason I suspect that they are. I've run Spybot S&D, Ad-Ware SE, AVG Anti-virus, and Trendmicro Housecall - none detected anything wrong.

Should I try to repair or reinstall XP with my disk to fix the Firewall, hoping it will fix the rest, or is there some other step to take first, or what? Any input would be appreciated, and I thank you in advance.

*EDIT* Did an XP repair installation, problem is apparently solved.

Just got a chance to read this...

Glad the problem was resolved. I don't think there was much else TO do except repair and hope it worked.

The real question is...does your sound card work now? biggrin2.gif

We will never know. He's refused to load TS tongue.gif You think he finally got tired of us ribbing him about it.

I've never been convinced I have a sound card problem...

Hmmm......must be all of our soundcards then tongue.gif

That's not what I mean. My soundcard works for the game, and it works for TS2. It is only when the map ends and I go back to the game Lobby that the sound I transmit to everyone else goes to static. If I close TS2 and come back again, it's fine. I don't see how that is a sound card problem, sounds more like some kind of software or hardware process conflict.

Besides, you all love the "SFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSHHHHHH" and you know it. wink.gif

Probably because me and about 3 other people had the same problem, and we replaced our cards, and it fixed it. POW.gif
