QUOTE (Azrael @ Jan 2 2010, 03:22 PM) So what exactly do you need to get in on this? Besides Crysis - do you need to apply for a beta and such. Also do you have to Win 7 cause that aint' happen, I refuse to reload the whole main drive, would figure the morons could make an updater besides just Vista. For now you just need Crysis and any windows OS from XP on up. btw Windows XP to Windows 7 was quite painless. It only took about 25 minutes and that included putting Office 07 back on with all the updates.

QUOTE (ThrashDog @ Jan 2 2010, 09:30 PM) Open beta, none of the "Super Sekrit Beta Club" stuff MekTek used to pull. I'd imagine if you can run Crysis, you're set. My laptop blew up a few days back, and now I'm waiting on parts to refresh my old desktop, but once that all gets worked out I'm planning to jump in and see what this is all about. Heh, so that -was- you I saw on The Tech Report, Thrashy?

Which I'm not doing, too much of a hassle on this system. If I could do it without a complete wipe of the drive I would do it - I was really hoping just for an 'update' software when it came out. I'll have to try and pick up Crysis and see what I can get hooked up, running it should be no prob and since I got laid off I gots plenty of time

If you are going from XP to Win 7 or I believe 32bit to 64bit it will require a clean install. Wasn't so bad on my system because all of "My Documents" were kept on a separate hard drive. I only had the OS and programs on the main hard drive.

I've kept most everything on my second drive (docts, music, picts, some games) but i still have a load of programs on the main which is what is causing me to delay it. I just don't feel like reinstalling all that crap esp the pain ones like Itunes, which thanks to a glitch during an update has ticked itself to 4 of 5 computers installed. I think I'll just wait till I buy a new system or something crashes and gives me a 'have too'. Already had to go buy a new vid card the day after Xmas, the 8800gtx just went nuts and took a dump.

From what I've managed to see, the mod is awesome. But I cannot for the life of me get my Gamespy login to work, and it's driving me insane. It worked once, the time I fill in the "new account" details bit, but it won't login again. Real shame that I can't play what looks like an awesome game because of some piece of crap login server that can't even handle the Gamespy ID I've been using for years.

Have you taken a look at the MWLL forums? I seem to recall a thread about this very issue and I think they had a solution.

Menty don't feel bad. It took me forever to figure out what my login and passwords were. I have two gamespy accounts it took me a day to remember. Once past the minor hiccups of the beta I can sit for hours playing it. It is alot of fun.

I'm debating whether I want to splurge and buy Crysis (which I probably wouldn't play otherwise) so I can try this now, or if I should just sit on it until they move it over to Warhead like they say they will. I'd rather not have to buy *two* games I don't care about if I can help it.

OK so I haven't been around much...err...at all lately. I've kinda given up my system until my step-son got a new one which was yesterday. I've gotta re-install windows on my system and get his shiny new one set up over the next couple days. Then I'll be back online a lot more. ...and holy crap when did MWLL come out? Oh yeah a belated merry xmas and happy new year

On the flags, I believe H' has gotten in touch with some of the dev team who are interested in putting it in the game. Good news, there. The cbill thing, ... I wish it was missing that. I spent a few bucks for borderlands and a really weak, retread add-on (wow, now zombies are vomiting on me instead of dogs--breakthrough!) for it over the last few weeks. I felt much better about spending the money on crysis and warhead. ymmv.

So if you see somebody running around in an Atlas. Don't run in fear if your in BA. Pull out you grenade(more like a sticky bomb) use your JJ's and plant one of those suckers right on it's shiny glass roof head....fly away and watch the instant kill. Fly back and enjoy your new 100tons of free walking doom. Just don't get shot in the head since there is no armor now. That and you may need a few rags to clean up the umm....mess you made

I'm having Gamespy issues. No matter what I do it says that the account info is wrong when I try to log in. I've created a good account and have logged in through gamespy before I load the game. When I try to log in to connect to multiplayer I get an error. Any ideas?

Exact same problem I was having. Ended up having to make a new Gamespy account, log into regular Crysis running under admin, log in, let it save the details, then close the game, run MW:LL without admin, and let it autologin and it works. Usually.

It may be worth dl'ing. But, I've probably played it for the last time. As someone who likes 3pv, ctf, mcrugby, tatt, solaris, (and customizations supporting those gametypes) I found ffp, cbill-dependencies, and getting hung up on virtually anything because I couldn't see jack... well, the charm wore off quickly.
The devs have a fairly well-defined target audience in mind. They're erring on the side of a sim, rather than a game. And I'll leave it up to others who think MW should be just that to judge how well they're pulling that off.
Maybe I'm misremembering, because I really didn't pay them much attention, but I recall the ffp servers as always being in a decided minority. And, while I'd like to see MW:LL succeed and hopefully encourage Smith and Tinker or whomever to move forward with what they're doing, I hope MW:LL's catering to a minority (admirably passionate though they are) so exclusively doesn't hurt the impact they could have on future efforts.

I really don't see it as so much of a sim, as that vehicles, 'Mechs especially, are arbitrarily and needlessly hard to use. It shifts the balance of play over to the battle-armor -- which, incidentally, is a hell of a lot of fun. Reminds me a lot of Tribes, and can be a real mind-bender on their low-gravity map; I once had a really interesting BA duel where neither of us touched the ground for about five minutes. I was flipping between view modes to track the other guy against the sky or the ground as light conditions changed, trying to time his jump-jet bursts and use mine to juke and evade, having to maneuver through all three dimensions to maintain range. That was far and away the most fun I had playing the beta. (Well, that, and the time I gibbed a Mad Cat Mk II pilot through the canopy glass at 600 meters, but that was more of a "moment of Zen" thing...)
But step up into the vehicles, and things start going south. When you can't go cross-country in a tank for fear of being beached on a tree stump/rock/hillock/dead rabbit, and you fall off a cliff into a pit of lava while driving a 'Mech because 60% of your field of view is obscured by a useless cockpit model, all the joy gets sucked out. Part of that may be Crysis' clunky vehicle code rearing its ugly head, but from reading the forums the developers are also intent on keeping the difficulty high so that battle armor remains a serious threat. Which is odd, because the balance is only going to be even more skewed in favor of BA once they implement claws. As it is, a persistent BA player who closes before his target notices him stands a fair chance of bringing down a decently-piloted 'Mech in a one-on-one fight, and the odds go in favor of the BA altogether if they're operating in groups.
Personally I'd rather just have Tribes and a MechWarrior game separately, but that's their decision to make. It is fun, but it's not going to be The Next Big Thing AFAIC.

QUOTE (ThrashDog @ Feb 5 2010, 11:59 PM) Lots of good stuff Agreed. The simness of it (such as it is) is repellant. It's just an unfun mess, regardless of range or weapon type. And, I was also reminded of tribes 2 (which I thought was a ton of fun until the hacks got thoroughly amok), w/o the fun sliding part. Oh well.

On the topic of awesome low-G gun battles, I've been playing Shattered Horizon's free weekend on Steam. If the teams are balanced, it's a heck of a lot of fun. I'm enjoying it quite a bit more than I was MWLL...

I really have liked it so for: except that my system really hates Crysis. I'm up to almost Max spec but that doesn't stop the glaring engine bugs. l'm making the jump to 64 bit tonight and will give it another shot and hopefully make it playable
